ICYMI: Week 8

Let’s check in on the fan base, build our own trade rumors, and see what else we might have missed in the last week of coverage

Welcome back to our weekly round up of the best news and writing on Cat Scratch Reader that you may have missed. The trade deadline is in three days, the Panthers play the Ravens tomorrow, and Ron Rivera still can’t find an aggressive bone in his body. Check out all of that and more below.

The Panthers should trade with the Jaguars for Calais Campbell

It is almost certain that this will be Julius Pepper’s final year in uniform. To shore up that area of the defense, and to give the Panthers a very good (sometimes elite) edge rusher, you have to look at teams who have a reason to give away such a talent. For me, there is only one real target that will move the needle and get the Panthers over the edge, and that is to acquire Calais Campbell from the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Tuesday Turtle Spotlight: Playing for halftime with a 10-0 deficit

The Panthers defense took the field with two timeouts and the two minute warning to play with. The Eagles, with their backs literally against the wall, handed the ball to Corey Clement on first down to run the clock down to the two minute warning. After the stoppage, the Eagles again elected to run, making it very clear that they had no intent to move the ball before the half.

The Panthers earned a little more confidence from their fans after stunning comeback win over the Eagles

Panthers fans are a little more confident in their team this week following that amazing 4th quarter comeback to defeat the Eagles 21-17 on the road. According to our FanPulse survey, fans’ confidence jumped from 35% to 48% after just one win. I guess it’s true what they say—winning does cure all.

Why are there so many space aliens on the field?

Peppers, Adams, and Suggs have each proven their worth as players and leaders on the field for over a decade and done so without ever missing a full season to injury. In a word, they are aliens.

Seriously, people don’t do what these guys have done. The real reason Davis didn’t make this list is because he is obviously a bionic man and not from outer space. The NFL might be moving towards a pass happy, high scoring brand of offensive football, but these vets will make sure to make a show out of their defenses so long as they are on the fields.

- Walker Clement
