Jarrad Davis, Darius Slay limp through Wednesday’s practice

Not great news for the Lions defense.

While the Detroit Lions are still riding a high off of a big win against the Miami Dolphins and a reported trade that will land them one of the best run-stuffers in the league, the team was dealing with injuries to two of their most important defensive players.

Linebacker Jarrad Davis spent the beginning of practice having a long talk with head coach Matt Patricia while the rest of the team did warm-up stretches. When positional drills began, Davis spent the next 10-15 minutes on the ground with a trainer stretching his legs. By the end of the open portion of practice, Davis was on his feet and walking through drills, but he was clearly not a full participant.

Davis is coming off arguably the best performance of his young career. His play against the Dolphins landed him on PFF’s Team of the Week, and we broke down what made him so good on Sunday. Even with his inconsistent play, his absence would be felt if he can’t go against a run-heavy Seahawks team.

It would also be devastating if Darius Slay misses Sunday’s game. The Lions cornerback spent considerable time with a trainer during Wednesday’s practice who appeared to be taping his right ankle. He returned to practice afterwards and appeared to be going through drills at normal speed shortly thereafter, but it’s definitely something to continue to monitor as the week goes on.

In positive news, running back Theo Riddick returned to practice after missing last week. He didn’t go through many drills, but the fact that he was out there and dressed means he’s trending in the right direction for a return after his knee injury.
