Jets Promote WR Deontay Burnett From Practice Squad

The New York Jets have promoted wide receiver Deontay Burnett from the practice squad to the 53 man roster. Burnett replaces wide receiver Terrelle Pryor, whom the Jets cut in a surprise move today.

Burnett is a 21 year old, 6’ 0”, 186 pound rookie undrafted free agent who was originally signed by the Tennessee Titans out of USC, where he played with Jets quarterback Sam Darnold. Burnett led the USC Trojans in 2017 with 86 receptions for 1,114 yards and nine touchdowns, and he led the Tennessee Titans in preseason catches with 11. The Titans cut him after the preseason and the Jets signed him to the practice squad.

It has been a whirlwind week for the Jets practice squad. On Tuesday the Jets cut running back De’Angelo Henderson from the practice squad to make room for an offensive tackle, 6’ 6”, 295 pound prospect Dieugot Joseph out of Florida International University. On Wednesday the Jets placed practice squad edge defender Harvey Langi on injured reserve and re-signed De’Angelo Henderson to take Langi’s place on the practice squad. And today Deontay Burnett has been promoted to the 53 man roster from the practice squad, and reports are the Denver Broncos have signed center Nico Falah off of the Jets practice squad. That would leave two openings on the practice squad as of today.
