Lions earning wide praise for Damon Harrison trade

Everyone is praising the Lions this Wednesday morning.

The Detroit Lions haven’t even made the move official yet, but the team is already earning a ton of praise for their decision to send a fifth-round pick to the New York Giants for nose tackle Damon Harrison Sr. From fans to analysts to players, Twitter was abuzz Wednesday morning with near-unanimous praise for the Detroit Lions. Here’s just a small look at what they’re saying about the trade.

National Analysts

From Rotoworld’s Evan Silva:

ESPN’s Mike Clay:

Pats Pulpit’s Brian Phillips:

Pro Football Weekly’s Eric Edholm:

The Scout Academy’s Brandon Thorn:

Just take a moment to breathe that last one in. “Probably the best single move they could have done” to address their biggest need. I’m sweating right now.

NFL players

No one knows the kind of player Harrison is than the players that share a league with him. A few players, past and present, offered their thoughts on the trade, all of them positive for the Lions.

First, there’s former Lions and Giants offensive lineman Geoff Schwartz, who never actually played with Harrison, but certainly knows him well:

Although Schwartz does admit that getting more than a fifth-round pick for Harrison was unlikely for the Giants.

Former Lions defensive end Lawrence Jackson is a big fan of the move:

Meanwhile, Harrison’s former—and now current—teammate Devon Kennard is thrilled:

Harrison’s now former teammate, safety Landon Collins, is not happy:

Local reaction

First, let’s give Lions Wire’s Jeff Risdon a shoutout. Hours prior to Adam Schefter breaking the news about the trade, Risdon listed Snacks as a dream scenario for the Lions at the trade deadline.

“Harrison is an ideal interior lineman for any defense, but his scheme versatility and exceptional consistency in snuffing out the between-the-tackles run is even more tantalizing for Detroit. “Snacks” is exactly what the Lions need on the defensive line. He’s also an intelligent and personable teammate who never takes a play off.”

As for Lions play-by-play radio announcer Dan Miller? Yeah, he’s pretty stoked:

The Lions beat thinks it’s a pretty darn good move, too:
