Turnover battle remains integral to a Bills victory
The Buffalo Bills traveled down to Texas last weekend as 10-point underdogs to take on the Houston Texans at NRG Stadium. The Bills tried to replicate a formula that has been successful for them so far in 2018: In both of their wins this season, the Bills have forced three turnovers. They managed to force three turnovers against the Texans, but did not get the win. That’s because they also turned the ball over three times themselves.
Since 2000, teams with three turnovers have a winning percentage of only .202. The Bills have fared even worse in those scenarios. They only have a winning percentage of .092 over that time span.
The Bills do not have to be perfect. They overcame a turnover in their win against the Tennessee Titans. They do, however, have to come out ahead in the turnover battle. The Bills have lost the turnover battle in all four losses this season. The defense has done their part—they rank sixth in the league in turnovers caused—but the offense has not been able to take care of the ball. They’ll need to remedy that in order to get more wins this season.
