The Patriots’ first practice report of the week is out.
With their thrilling win over the Kansas City Chiefs in the rear-view mirror, the New England Patriots are now “on to Chicago”. Today, the team released its first practice report of the week leading up to its game against the Chicago Bears – and a look at it shows that the Patriots have some noticeable players listed.
Did not participate
Patriots: OT Marcus Cannon (concussion)
Bears: DB Marcus Cooper Sr. (hamstring), LB Khalil Mack (ankle)
Patriots starting right tackle Marcus Cannon missed today’s session after having to leave Sunday’s game against Kansas City with a head injury. Turns out that the injury in question was a concussion and that the veteran is being held out of practice while in the protocol. In his place, LaAdrian Waddle is likely taking first-team reps – and could fill in against Chicago in case Cannon is not ready to go.
The Bears, meanwhile, had to practice without two of their players. Backup defensive back and special teamer Marcus Cooper has missed the last three games due to his hamstring issue, while star linebacker Khalil Mack is a new addition to the list. Mack, of course, is one of the NFL’s best defensive players and would be a tremendous loss in case he will not be ready to go on Sunday.
Limited participation
Patriots: DT Malcom Brown (knee), WR Julian Edelman (heel), WR Josh Gordon (hamstring), DE Geneo Grissom (ankle), TE Rob Gronkowski (ankle), TE Jacob Hollister (hamstring), RB Sony Michel (knee), CB Eric Rowe (groin), DE John Simon (shoulder), DE Deatrich Wise Jr. (ankle/knee)
Bears: DB Prince Amukamara (hamstring), OL Eric Kush (neck), WR Allen Robinson II (groin)
The Patriots’ already long list of limited participants received three new additions today: wide receiver Julian Edelman, tight end Jacob Hollister and defensive edge Deatrich Wise Jr. were all present today but participated only in limited capacity. While Hollister is but a depth option at this point in time, Wise Jr. is a valuable rotational piece at a position that has been hit by injury (Geneo Grissom, John Simon) and inconsistency (Keionta Davis, Derek Rivers). Edelman, of course, is one of the team’s most valuable offensive players.
