Phillip Lindsay and Courtland Sutton shine for Broncos

In otherwise dark and uncertain times, the two rookies flash some excitement and hope for a brighter future.

Since it feels as if we’re stuck on repeat, let’s switch it up.

Instead of dwelling on what’s gone wrong the last season-and-a-half and how to fix it, for my own sanity, I want to focus on what has changed for the better. We can see that in two areas, or two players, for the Denver Broncos. That is Phillip Lindsay and Courtland Sutton.

As I told Adam Malnati on the latest MHR Radio Podcast, each and every week the two rookies go about their business and impress while they do it. Lindsay and Sutton make fans proud with the way they play the game. You can tell both love and respect what they do. Yet, despite the success from both through the first eight games of their NFL careers, they’re far from satisfied.

As Ryan Koenigsberg noted on Twitter, Lindsay ranks sixth in the NFL in rushing behind Todd Gurley, Ezekiel Elliott, James Conner, Kareem Hunt and Adrian Peterson. The backs ahead of Lindsay each have 127 carries or more, he only has 93. The Broncos rookie is averaging 5.7 yards per carry, nobody in front of him is over 4.7. Benjamin Allbright posed the question, and I’ll ask it here: Is Lindsay the best running back in the NFL not named Gurley?

As I noted in the winners and losers, Sutton needs to get at least three to five 50/50 deep balls a game since he either comes down with them or draws pass interference penalties. It’s also time to make Sutton the No. 2 receiver.

In a season that has given Broncos Country far more reason to feel disinterested and pissed off, Lindsay and Sutton give us reason to feel excitement and, gasp, hope for the future. With so much uncertainty and darkness around Denver, from top to bottom, Lindsay and Sutton give us hope for a brighter future.
