The Chiefs originally selected Allen in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft.
UPDATE (Tuesday, 4:05 p.m. Arrowhead Time):
The Chiefs make it official, via their official Twitter account. S Leon McQuay, who was brought up to the active roster due to the safety shortage, has been waived once again.

The Kansas City Chiefs are likely bringing back free agent offensive lineman Jeff Allen, according to a report from NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.
Pending reunion: The #Chiefs will sign G Jeff Allen if all goes well with his physical, source says. Allen began his career in KC before signing with the #Texans as a free agent. Chiefs need interior OL help, especially with G Lauren Duvernay-Tardif on IR.

Allen, 28, originally entered the league with the Chiefs when they selected him in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft. Allen spent 2012 to 2015 with the team before signing a four-year deal with the Houston Texans back in 2016.
The move comes in wake of the recent injuries to the Chiefs along the offensive line. The feeling I’ve gotten from the team is that team decision-makers believe starting right guard Laurent Durvernay-Tardif is done for the year, and starting center Mitch Morse, who has a slight concussion history, suffered another one in the Chiefs’ game Sunday night loss to the New England Patriots.
Allen is not only versatile—he’s played guard, tackle and center—he is also a locker room favorite. Ask any of the Chiefs’ offensive linemen, and they will tell you how much they loved playing with him.
Allen started 26 games for the Texans over the last two seasons, mainly at right guard but mixing in some left tackle. When Morse left the game Sunday, the Chiefs line from left to right was LT Eric Fisher, LG Cam Erving, C Jordan Devey, RG Andrew Wylie and RT Mitch Schwartz. It will be interesting to see how Allen fits in that mix.
He has been a free agent since the Texans released him in mid-July with an injury settlement.
