Week 8 Patriots vs Bills Thursday practice report: Rob Gronkowski returns to the field

The All Pro tight end is back in action.

The New England Patriots announced their first injury report of the week (the days are pushed back because they play on Monday Night Football) and the team had some familiar faces return to the field.

Here’s the report.

Did Not Practice

Patriots: RB Sony Michel (knee), CB Eric Rowe (groin), OL Brian Schwenke (foot)

Bills: LB Lorenzo Alexander (rest), QB Josh Allen (right elbow), RB Taiwan Jones (neck), DE Trent Murphy (knee), DT Kyle Williams (rest)

Schwenke is a new absence for the team, while Michel and Rowe were expected. Michel is considered week-to-week, while Rowe appeared to re-injure his groin against the Chicago Bears.

Alexander and Williams are getting their typical veterans’ rest day, while Allen is already out for the week.

Limited Participant

Patriots: OT Trent Brown (ankle), OT Marcus Cannon (concussion), WR Josh Gordon (hamstring), DE Geneo Grissom (ankle), TE Rob Gronkowski (ankle/back), LB Dont’a Hightower (knee), TE Jacob Hollister (hamstring), DE John Simon (shoulder), DE Deatrich Wise (ankle/knee)

Bills: QB Derek Anderson (back/calf), RB Chris Ivory (hamstring), RB LeSean McCoy (concussion)

The Patriots injury report is pretty lengthy, but this actually represents good progress for the team. Gronkowski, Cannon, and Wise all returned to practice, while Malcom Brown and Julian Edelman were removed from the report.

Brown is a new addition with his ankle injury, as is Hightower with his knee injury. We’ll monitor these moving forward to learn about their severity.

The Bills top two running backs are on the report, with McCoy a big question mark for his availability. With Anderson joining Allen on the report, there’s a slim chance that Nate Peterman will be the starting quarterback for the Bills, which would certainly be a treat to watch.
