49ers promote Mabin from practice squad, sign McFadden to practice squad

The 49ers are adding some secondary depth after Emmanuel Moseley’s season-ending injury.

The San Francisco 49ers announced a pair of roster moves on Thursday. The team promoted cornerback Greg Mabin from the practice squad and signed cornerback Tarvarus McFadden to the practice squad.

Mabin replaces Emmanuel Moseley, who was placed on injured reserve after injuring himself on a special teams in his 2018 debut with the team. Richard Sherman and Ahkello Witherspoon appear set to start once again in Week 10, so Mabin is likely going to be primarily a special teams player.

The 49ers signed McFadden as an undrafted free agent this offseason, but cut him at the end of training camp. He signed to the Indianapolis Colts practice squad on September 11th, and was then waived by the Colts on September 25th.

While the 49ers 53-man roster is now full, they still are likely to promote a running back from the practice squad. That move will likely happen on Monday, and will probably accompany a release of Tom Savage ... again.
