The Chargers won against a major power... did it help?
Another week, another roundup! Yee-haw!
The Chargers won over a rather talented Seahawks team, and they did so on enemy turf. That alone would typically be enough to catapult a team up the rankings, but the Chargers stayed put. In fact, they are the ONLY team that is a unanimous pick in 95% of sports media sites. I had to dig around to find another blog that felt differently, and the only one I could find was SB Nation’s Philadelphia Eagles blog:
7 - Los Angeles Chargers (LW: 10) - The Chargers are for real. Winning in Seattle like they did is no easy feat. Philip Rivers deserves to be in the MVP conversation.
However, I am trying not to include rankings from specific-team sites, because of the heavy bias possible (oddly enough, rarely for the home team, but rather they tend to be harder on division rivals). Because of that, BGN is vanquished henceforth from the rankings. Off with thee!

Preseason rank: 10 | Week 9: 5
The Chargers are a little ahead of where they were expected to be in the preseason, thanks to Philip Rivers playing perhaps his best football as a pro. He has completed 67 percent of his passes for 2,238 yards and 19 touchdowns, and he has thrown just three interceptions. Rivers has done a nice job of staying steady and playing within himself, letting the game come to him. -- Eric Williams

Got hazed by a Seahawks fan I met at the airport for being lazy. He said I was pulling generic stats when, in my blurb for Chargers- Seahawks in the Week 9 Game Picks, I noted how many chunk runs the Chargers have manufactured this season. Well, I am not one to take glee at another’s misfortune, so I won’t say anything. Anyway, important win for the Bolts in a tough place to play. (OK, so now I will mention that the Chargers’ runners produced gains of 28, 16, 34, 20, 21 and 14 yards. That’s a helluva lot of 10-plus-yard runs for a single game. Oh, let’s get back to the column ...) Close call there at the end, as it appeared Jahleel Addae tweaked that last Russell Wilson offering jusssssssssssst a smidge ... but it was enough for big W.

The Rams are clearly separating from the pack and the 6-2 Chargers aren’t far behind, coming in at No. 5 on the rankings after their 25-17 win over the Seahawks. The Chargers will have another chance to beat the Chiefs in Week 15. LA lost by 10 to Kansas City in Week 1.

The Los Angeles Chargers have been humming this season, with their only two losses coming at the hands of the Chiefs and Rams. Still, they haven’t been without their troubles — the team had to cut kicker Caleb Sturgis after he missed two extra points and a field goal in their win over the Seahawks.

It seems like the Chargers haven’t had an easy win since the 1980s. Every game seems to be harder than it should. But, they got a big road win at Seattle. (Mike Williams)
