Dolphins at Packers final score, immediate reactions, and recap

The Miami Dolphins and Green Bay Packers are complete with their Week 10 contest, with the Packers pulling away from Miami for the win.

Final Score

Dolphins 12 - Packers 31

Immediate Reactions

Osweiler. Brock Osweiler was the reaction for this game. The defense had their own issues and Osweiler was not helped by a patch-work offensive line and receivers who were dropping like flies, but Osweiler played like Osweiler in this game. He overthrew receivers. He was behind receivers. And he made bad choices. It was exactly the game that makes Osweiler not a starter for the Houston Texans right now. He finished the game 23-for-37 for 213 yards (5.8 yards per attempt) with one intercetion and a 66.6 passer rating.

The defense definitely had issues - they were not has bad as they were two weeks ago, but they were not the team that dominated the New York Jets last week either, probably because they were facing a good NFL team. Aaron Jones made Miami’s run defense look bad repeatedly, finding nothing but space in the middle of the field.

Miami’s offensive line is a mess. Hopefully Ja’Wuan James and Laremy Tunsil are not out for long as the Dolphins line is down to just one opening-day starter at this point.

Leonte Carroo actually had an impact in the game, on special teams and as a receiver, but he also appeared to be the player who allowed the Packers to fake a punt for a 26-yard gain.

Jakeem Grant appears to have had a major Achilles injury. DeVante Parker and Andre Branch appeared to hurt their shoulders. And Miami continues to be bitten by the injury bug.

The major takeaway from this week may be that next week is Miami’s bye week. They need it to rest, rehab, and sign additional players to make up for the injuries that are just killing them right now.

Recap

First Quarter

Dolphins first possession. The Dolphins opened with the ball, with Brock Osweiler missing Danny Amendola on the first pass attempt. Frank Gore picked up 39 yards on second down, then four on the next play. Osweiler found Amendola for nine yards, followed by a three-yard pass to Kenyan Drake. Drake then picked up six yards on 2nd-and-7. Gore picked up five yards to give Miami a 1st-and-10 at the Packers 14-yard line. Travis Swanson snapped the ball high on the next play, with Osweiler unable to control it and the Packers fell on the fumble.

Jones picked up 15 yards on the next play. A quick screen pass to Equanimeous St. Brown was stopped after one yard by Bobby McCain, but then a screen pass to Jones picked up eight yards and set up a 1st-and-10 from the Miami 21. Jones was called for a false start, backing up the Packers to a 1st-and-15. Another screen pass to Jones picked up 19, setting up 1st-and-Goal fro the Dolphins’ seven. Osweiler then connected with Amendola on a short slant that as turned up field for a 39-yard gain. Osweiler came back to Parker, finally connecting with him, on a 10-yard gain. On the 1st-and-10 from the Packers’ 24, Osweiler again found Parker, this time for seven yards. Gore hurdled his way to a nine-yard gain to set up 1st-and-Goal from the eight. Osweiler could not find A.J. Derby on an out route, then Drake managed to pick up one on a congested run to the right. Osweiler threw the ball straight to the Packers on the 3rd down play, looking for Amendola, but luckily the ball fell to the turf. Miami connected on a 25-yard field goal.

Packers 14-6.

Packers third possession. Dolphins safety Reshad Jones entered the game after the kickoff, ending his benching following last week’s situation where he pulled himself out of the game in the first quarter. A personal foul penalty on the kick return changed the Packers from starting at the 30 to starting at their own 10. On a deep shot down the left side, Minkah Fitzpatrick broke up the pass as he moves back to cornerback with Jones back at safety. Bobby McCain then shut down a quick pass to the right. On 3rd-and-10, the Dolphins pressured Rodgers, but somehow he was still able dance around in the endzone, eventually being able to find Adams for a 19-yard gain. Rodgers then connected with Lance Kendricks for a six-yard gain. Jamaal Williams picked up two yards on second down, then Rodgers found Marquez Valdes-Scantling for five yards. Rodgers scrambled for nine yards on 1st-and-10, then Williams lost one yard. Rodgers then scrambled around in the backfield, somehow avoiding the pressure until he finally had to throw the ball away. The Packers lined up to go for it on 4th-and-2, with Cameron Wake and Robert Quinn able to get to Rodgers for the sack.

Dolphins fifth possession. Taking over at the Green Bay 45, Gore picked up three yards on first don, then Osweiler was incomplete looking deep to Parker. He then missed on a pass to Parker before a 14-yard pass to Parker. Osweiler then just missed on a long ball to Parker, who was wide open and would have walked down the field for the score. A six-yard pass to Kalen Ballage was followed by an eight yard gain from Osweiler to Amendola. A nine-yard pass to Ballage ended the half.

End second quarter. Packers 14-9.

Third quarter

Packers fifth possession. Jones picked up six yards on first down, bouncing through the Miami defense before being tripped up. Rodgers looked deep for Valdes-Scantling, but Howard broke up the pass. Rodgers found a crossing Adams, with Bobby McCain injured on an illegal hit that should have led to an ejection, with an offsetting penalty from Miami apparently getting rid of the ridiculous hit on McCain by St. Brown. A false start then backed up the Packers before Rodgers was flushed from the pocket and forced to throw away the ball. Green Bay punted after the three-and-out, with the kick blocked by Brandon Bolden with Leonte Carroo recovering the ball at the 26.

Dolphins seventh possession. After an incomplete pass, Gore picked up one yard. Then a five-yard gain from Mike Gesicki, who was hit after one yard but bounced off and got four more, led to a Miami field-goal attempt. Sanders connected on the 40-yard kick.

Packers sixth possession. The Packers started at their own 40 yard line after Sanders’ kickoff rolled out of bounds at the three. Rodgers found Valdes-Scantling for eight yards on first down. Rodgers threw the ball away on second down, then a 30-yard catch and run from Mercedes Lewis moved the ball to the Dolphins 22. Jones then picked up 11 yards after bouncing outside. Jones then discovered the middle of the field was again wide open and scored on the 10-yard run.

Packers 21-12.

Drake then picked up two yards before a sack of Osweiler backed up Miami seven. On 3rd-and-15, Carroo was found for 20 yards. Osweiler connected with Kenny Stills on a slant for eight yards. Osweiler looked toward Jakeem Grant on the second-down play, but the receiver started hopping as soon as he made his cut for the slant and it appeared to be an Achilles injury. On 3rd-and-2, Parker had the ball hit in his hands, but it fell incomplete and Parker looked to be shaken up on the play. On 4th-and-2, Miami went for it, with Osweiler getting the ball way late to Nick O’Leary, who converted for the first down with a five-yard gain. Gore picked up one yard, then Amendola picked up two yards. On 3rd-and-7, Osweiler was sacked for a 12-yard loss.

End third quarter. Packers 28-12.

Packers eighth possession. Rogers connected with Valdes-Scantling, but Raekwon McMillan was there to stop the play for no gain. Then Jones ran for 10 yards. Rodgers found Jimmy Graham on the deep crossing route for a 14-yard gain. Adams was then open to the flat and picked up six yards. Jones ran up the middle for no gain. Rodgers just managed to avoid a sack from Andre Branch, then threw toward Jones, with Reshad Jones nearly coming away with the interception - Branch headed to the sideline holding his shoulder after the play. On the punt, the Packers faked it and ran for 26 yards from Jones. Jones then added another three yards on the next play. Davon Godchaux should have gotten a sack on the next play, but off setting penalties gave the Packers a re-play. Rodgers then looked to Adams deep in the endzone, but Howard broke up the play. After another incomplete pass, the Packers settled for a field goal.

Packers 31-12.

Dolphins tenth possession. Osweiler was incomplete on the first down play, then Drake picked up eight yards. Osweiler found an open Amendola for the one-yard gain after he ran into Derby. On 4th-and-1, Drake picked up three yards for the first down. Derby caught the first down pass for 13 yards, getting out to the 50-yard line. Drake picked up six yards before Osweiler found Amendola for five yards. Osweiler was then sacked for a nine yard loss. Then on 3rd-and-11, Osweiler was sacked for a two-yard loss. On 4th-and-13, Osweiler was sacked for the third-straight play.
