Eagles get help with Washington losing to the Falcons

Good stuff.

The Philadelphia Eagles got a key win on Sunday despite the fact they’re on their bye this week.

The Atlanta Falcons came up big to the Eagles’ aide by defeating the division-leading Washington Redskins, 38 to 14. Jay Gruden’s team is now 5-3 on the 2018 NFL season.

Let’s take an updated look at the NFC East standings:

1) Washington Redskins: 5-3 overall (1-0 in division games)
2) Philadelphia Eagles: 4-4 overall (1-0 in division games)
3) Dallas Cowboys: 3-4 overall (1-1 in division games)
4) New York Giants: 1-7 overall (0-3 in division games)

As you can see, your reigning Super Bowl champion Eagles are still very much alive in the playoff picture. Just one game back on the division lead.

Washington’s defense looked VERY vulnerable on Sunday. They allowed 38 points and 491 yards. Washington even allowed Julio Jones, who hadn’t scored a regular season touchdown since Week 11 last season, to finally get in the end zone.

Making matters worse for Washington is that their offensive line is now dealing with a number of injury issues. Starting left tackle Trent Williams missed Sunday’s game with a thumb injury that could reportedly keep him out for a month. Starting left guard Shawn Lauvao was taken off the field in a wheelchair early in the game. Starting right guard Brandon Scherff suffered a shoulder injury and did not return. Starting right tackle Morgan Moses returned to the game after getting hurt but was clearly impacted by injury.

Next up for Washington is a road game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Eagles will hope Ryan Fitzpatrick saves some of his Fitzmagic for that game.

Next up for the NFC East is a Monday Night Football game with the Dallas Cowboys hosting the Tennessee Titans. The Cowboys will then travel to Philadelphia on a short week with the Eagles returning to action next Sunday, November 11.

...

In other news, the Ravens lost to the Steelers. That’s good news for the Eagles since Philadelphia owns Baltimore’s 2019 second-round draft pick. The Ravens are now 4-5 after losing their last three games. This loss puts a big dent in their playoff chances.
