FINAL SCORE: Eagles lose to Cowboys, 27-20

The Eagles are losers.

FINAL SCORE

The Eagles are 4-5 on the 2018 NFL season after losing to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night, 27-20. Pathetic effort from the Eagles in a must-win game coming out of the bye week. Three straight losses at home.

FOURTH QUARTER

Eagles 10th drive: Eagles take over at their own 31-yard line with 40 seconds remaining and no timeouts. Eagles get to the Cowboys’ 41-yard line with 15 seconds remaining. And then to the 32-yard line with 11 seconds remaining. Wentz completes it over the middle to Ertz, who laterals to Tate, who is then tackled with no time left. Game over. Season over too, probably.

Cowboys 10th drive: Cowboys take over at their own 29-yard line with 1:09 remaining. Eagles still have all three timeouts. Cowboys run for a 2-yard loss, Eagles use their first timeout. Cowboys complete a pass for a 3-yard loss, Eagles use their second timeout. Prescott is sacked and the Eagles use their final timeout. Cowboys punt.

Eagles 9th drive: Eagles take over at their own 30-yard line with 3:14 remaining in the game. Wentz throws a dime to Jeffery for a first down. Then he throws to Smallwood to bring up 2nd-and-1. A throw to Tate helps to move the chains. Wentz avoids a sack and scrambles to bring up the 2-minute warning, 3rd-and-2 at the Cowboys’ 30-yard line. Eagles lose five yards on third down after Clement is tackled on a screen. Couldn’t make a defender miss. Feels like the Eagles have the most tackleable players in the league. Wentz throws to Ertz JUST short of the marker on fourth down. Shit.

Cowboys 9th drive: Jim Schwartz, it’s time to step up. Douglas goes for a tackle short of the sticks but can’t wrap his man up and allows a first down. Prescott buys time and finds a wide open receiver for a 24-yard gain. Eagles get Cowboys to 3rd-and-8 from their own 32-yard line. Douglas gets toasted and allows a big gain. He sure hasn’t been good. Dallas in the red zone now. Zeke runs it in on third down for another touchdown. Defense comes up very small yet again. Cowboys lead, 27-20.

Eagles 8th drive: Wentz hits Agholor on a deep bomb for a 51-yard gain. Perfect pass. Needed that! Then Wentz hits Ertz for a touchdown. All tied back up. Tie game, 20-20.

Cowboys 8th drive (continued): Cowboys feed Zeke and he takes Dallas into Eagles territory. Philadelphia gives Prescott too much time to throw and he moves the Cowboys into the red zone. Prescott hits Zeke for an easy touchdown thanks to Corey Graham leaving him open. Cowboys lead, 20-13.

THIRD QUARTER

Cowboys 8th drive: Darby is out for the game and undrafted rookie free agent Chandon Sullivan is in at cornerback. Oh boy. Cowboys pick up a first after running an option play on third down.

Eagles 7th drive: Wentz completes a pass to Jeffery for a first down. Then Wentz is sacked after holding on to the ball too long. Jeffery can’t hold on to a contested pass to move the chains. On 3rd-and-11, Wentz hits JMatt for an 18-yard reception. Crucial. Wentz to JMatt again on an RPO for another first. Wentz’s completion to Agholor sets up 3rd-and-short. Agholor is hurt. Wentz sneaks it for a first. Then he hits Ertz for a TOUCHDOWN! Tie game, 13-13.

Cowboys 7th drive: Eagles defense gives up a big run to Zeke. And then another. Cowboys suddenly at the Eagles’ 25-yard line. Prescott fumbles after getting pressured and throws it out of bounds on third down. Darby is hurt on the play, non-contact injury. Yikes. The Cowboys’ 42-yard field goal attempt is ... wide right!

Eagles 6th drive: Hey offense, are you going to actually do something for once? Wentz throws deep to Tate and the pass is broken up by a Cowboys defender not even looking at the ball. No flag for pass interference. Not a good throw by Wentz. Clement runs for a first down. Then Wentz hits Ertz to move to the Cowboys’ 32-yard line. Wentz hits Ertz in stride again to move the ball to the 11-yard line. NEED a touchdown here. Clement’s first down run goes for a 2-yard loss. Eagles run a hook and lateral with Ertz and Tate to bring up 3rd-and-7. Wentz’s third down pass to Jeffery at the goal line is dropped. Wentz’s throw made the catch attempt harder than it had to be. Waited too long to throw. Just not a good game from No. 11. Elliott makes the short field goal to make it a one score game. Cowboys lead, 13-6.

Cowboys 6th drive: Bennett sacks the hell out of Prescott on a first down bootleg. Wowza. Eagles defense forces Dallas into three-and-out. Good stop to start the second half.

SECOND QUARTER

Cowboys 5th drive: Prescott is sacked to bring up 2nd-and-23. Zeke gain brings it up to 3rd-and-15. Cowboys complete a screen for a first down, because of course. Then the Cowboys move into the red zone with a Prescott completion along the sideline to a wide open Beasley. Prescott completes another pass that’s stopped at the 1-yard line. He sneaks it in for a touchdown. Thanks a lot, Jim Schwartz. Cowboys lead, 13-3.

Eagles 5th drive: Wentz hits several completions to get the Eagles to the Cowboys’ 38-yard line at the 2-minute warning. Clement drops a screen pass that would’ve gone for a good gain. Wentz airs it out to an open Jeffery but a Cowboys player knocks it away at the last second. Would’ve been nice to see Jeffery come back to the ball there. Wentz’s third down throw to Zach is dropped. NO ONE IS DOING ANYTHING RIGHT. Pederson decides to go for it on 4th-and-10. Or not. Cowboys call their final timeout and Jake Elliott comes in for a 56-yard attempt. He nails it! Cowboys lead, 6-3.

Cowboys 4th drive: Cowboys don’t have much going. They have to punt. Or not. Dallas fakes the punt and gets a first. Dallas continues to methodically move down the field. Elliott breaks off a big run where he hurdles Sullivan and moves the Cowboys into the red zone. Eagles lucky Zeke tripped on the play. Doug Pederson challenges a spot on a Prescott run to move the Cowboys back by 1.5 yards. Whoopdeedo. Dallas gets to 3rd-and-goal from the 4-yard line after Prescott is tackled for no gain. Michael Bennett sacks Prescott to force another red zone field goal. Clutch stop by the defense. Cowboys lead, 6-0.

Eagles 4th drive: Eagles take over at their own 26-yard line after a 39-yard punt. The offense REALLY needs to wake up here. And it does! Adams breaks off a big 29-yard run on a nice wham design. The Eagles go back to Adams for another nice pickup. Wentz throws to Tate on 3rd-and-1 but it’s incomplete. Doug Pedrson goes for it on fourth down and Adams is tackled for a loss. Bad job by the blocking up front. Turnover on downs. Sigh.

Cowboys 3rd drive (continued): Cowboys go for it on 4th-and-1 but there’s a false start. Dallas ends up having to punt instead.

FIRST QUARTER

Cowboys 3rd drive: Dallas takes over at their own 8-yard after another dumb special teams penalty. Kamu Grugier-Hill DROPS a sure pick six. Ugh! Gotta make that play. Probably doesn’t help he recently had thumb surgery. On 3rd-and-6, Ronald Darby has Amari Cooper dead short of the sticks but the receiver bounces right off the hit and gets a first. Needed Darby to wrap him up there instead. Dallas gets to 4th-and-1 from the Cowboys’ own 40-yard line as the first quarter expires.

Eagles 3rd drive: Hey, offense. Time to do something good here. Corey Clement starts the drive with a 5-yard run. Then Wentz completes a ball to Jordan Matthews for a 10-yard gain. Wentz is sacked to set the offense back to 2nd-and-19. Jason Peters beat badly by Randy Gregory on that play. The Eagles get 14 back with a Wentz completion to Nelson Agholor. On 3rd-and-5, Alshon Jeffery has a ball go through his hands. Shaking my head. Punt.

Cowboys 2nd drive: Cowboys All-Pro right guard Zack Martin goes down. Dallas already thin on the interior offensive line. On 3rd-and-7, Prescott completes a first down pass after Rasul Douglas gives up inside leverage. Goal-to-go territory for the Cowboys now. Defense comes up big on third down to force the Cowboys into a 25-yard field goal make. Cowboys lead, 3-0.

Eagles 2nd drive: Eagles start at the Cowboys’ 44-yard line after a 12-yard punt return from Tate. Wentz immediately throws an interception to Leighton Vander Esch, who returns it 28 yards. UGH. Terrible pass.

Cowboys 1st drive: Tre Sullivan with the start at safety, Avonte Maddox lining up at nickel corner. Interesting. Cowboys begin at their own 9-yard line after a punt and a Dallas penalty. Dak Prescott is immediately sacked by Brandon Graham. Ezekiel Elliott runs for one yard. On 3rd-and-9, Prescott has time and gets a pass off to Michael Gallup along the sideline but Corey Graham tackles him before the receiver can stay inbounds. Great play by the veteran safety.

Eagles 1st drive: Carson Wentz completes a pass to Zach Ertz for one yard. Then the Eagles toss the ball to Josh Adams for no gain. On 3rd-and-9, Wentz completes a pass to Golden Tate but he’s stopped two yards short of the marker. Three-and-out. Not the fast start that would’ve been nice to see!

Coin toss: President George W. Bush flips the coin and it’s tails, which is what Dallas called. Hm. Cowboys defer and Eagles receive first.

Pregame scuffle: Eagles and Cowboys players meet near midfield. Looks like Jalen Mills and Cowboys defensive assistant Kris Richard were shoving.

GAME INFORMATION

In case you haven’t heard, the Philadelphia Eagles are set to play a very big Week 10 game on Sunday Night Football against their hated NFC East rival: the Dallas Cowboys.

This matchup is obviously critical for both sides. The Eagles are trying to put a sluggish start to the 2018 NFL season behind them and make a strong run down the stretch. The Cowboys, meanwhile, are merely trying to keep their season alive and avoid dropping to 3-6.

The reigning Super Bowl champions are significantly favored in this battle and for good reason. The Eagles have a number of factors working in their favor. For one, the Eagles are coming off their bye while the Cowboys are coming off playing (and losing) on Monday Night Football. Carson Wentz and Doug Pederson clearly edge out Dak Prescott and Jason Garrett in the quarterback-head coach dynamic.

The Eagles can neutralize those advantages if they continue to shoot themselves in the foot, however. Philadelphia must prove they can turn the page and put their first half mistakes behind them. They have a Golden opportunity to do so on Sunday night.

Here’s everything you need to know about how to watch the game.
