On why the Jets need some new leadership:

Think I’m going to keep pounding the table for the Jets

to hire a President of Foozeball Ops. I even have a dream hire! The Jets have had 17 different head coaches since winning the Super Bowl, about one every 3 years. At some point we need to consider the very real possibility that not having the perfect head coach isn’t really what ails this franchise. Ownership has not provided strong leadership or direction, I get it since they’re making crap tons of money anyway thanks to ‘Merica’s luv for this hack sport, but yeah at this point in history it just might be in Woody’s best interest to hire a proven FO stud to run his football operations. As previously stated – I would go very hard after Telesco from the Chargers for this role

On Buying the New York Jets:

Selling the team is a three stage process

1. Wait for Powerball to hit $1B 2. Win Powerball 3. Put together an new ownership group and make a competitive offer Sadly, my efforts always get hung up at stage 2.

On waiting until the end of the season to fire Bowles:

When it rains, it pours...

With that said and I know it’s an unpopular opinion, but I don’t see how firing him today would make a difference in the long term. The lack of talent on this roster is getting more apparent as the season goes on. At least providing some stability on the coaching staff can hopefully end things this season on a more positive note (Rex Ryans last game) and not turn the locker room into a dumpster fire in Darnold’s first year. Adding to the point, who is there on the coaching staff that would be a competent interim HC? Certainly not Bates or Rodgers. If there was someone on the staff that could take over as HC then they probably wouldn’t be 3-7 or he’d already by the interim HC.

-TempleOwl23

On why we should fire Bowles now:

It would be good to see if an interim coach could get more out of the roster

There are still tons of delusional Macc defenders who think that it’s Bowles schemes and boring mentality that are the sole reason the Jets are sucking. I’d like to see an interim coach get a bite at the apple and see if they can get more out of this depleted roster. It would be easier to fire Macc if the play is more of the same. But now that Bowles gets to ride out the season, the Macc defenders can still have an excuse to lay the blame solely on Bowles. And sadly, I think the Johnsons will agree with this and allow Macc another shot.

On why it may be smart to bench Darnold for the rest of the year:

There’s a difference between “risk” and “negligence”. Playing someone behind a poor offensive line is risky, but playing someone behind ours is not just detrimental to his development (See: David Carr, Christian Hackenburg for examples), but is downright negligent. The fact we are having this discussion highlights why I did not want Sam to play a game this season. He’s developing VERY bad habits for a QB (footwork, locking on targets, etc) and those are going to take a long while to break him out of. We are literally seeing us ruin the best QB prospect we’ve had since Namath.

-gamerk316

On why it isn’t smart to bench Darnold for the rest of the year:

The basic premise seems to be we should sit Sam because the team stinks and he’s inexperienced. OK. So what happens next year? He’ll be just as inexperienced, since we’re sitting him the rest of the way this year. What happens if the team stinks again? Do we sit him again next year? How about the year after that? Still sitting if the team stinks? Doesn’t seem a workable plan to me. There’s a good chance the team will stink every year. There’s a good chance the O-line will stink next year and the year after that. I don’t see how we have the luxury of having our presumed franchise QB stay on the bench until the surrounding talent is at some undefined acceptable level. That level may not be reached for a long time.

-MacGregor Wells

On why it doesn’t make sense to keep Maccagnan:

That article is ridiculous. Macc gets more time because this was his plan all along? To draft Darnold (as a bold move). What if he didn’t get Darnold? Or even if Todd performed more mediocre and we missed out on all of the 4 QBs this year? His plan rested on that? Clearly there is no direction for the rest of the team. Macc already had his big payday opportunity and spent it frivolously. He’s already had his chance to prove his draft picks are hits – 12/22? was that the stat? This team has young subpar talent and 100M next offseason really doesn’t look all that promising. So Macc brings in all this “new” talent next year and the team still sucks (now with a new coach) they then decide to move on from Macc and then the next new GM is stuck with all the bad contracts and players Macc brought in. Makes ZERO sense. Bring in a new GM, let him pick the whole damn team.. coach and all and ride that wave into the new era with Darnold and some of the current young 6th round pick talent we can build around.

-Tamarack

On what’s wrong with the Jets:

Everybody is the issue

Everybody.

-Barnaby8787

On leaving before halftime:

Mentioned this on the other thread but it’s all I can say regarding yesterday:

My Family became season ticket holders in 1989. I’ve seen more bad games than good. In the 30 years of attending Jet Games I’ve never left before Halftime. Yesterday that happened. And I was joined by about 30,000 others. Including Damien Woody. I will breath, and begin once again, getting psyched for the Draft.

-yowizeguy

On why we should still be optimistic of the Jets future:

Still feel optimistic about the future of this team

In large part to Darnold being on the roster. Watching old tape of all of his throws and comparing it to Sundays offensive performance really brought to light how bad the offense is around Darnold and how plays decent despite it. There are rookie mistakes but his good plays in between the bad plays look miraculous when you factor in how many pockets he had to escape and how the scheme doesn’t help the receivers get open. If we get a new leadership and truly build around Darnold, we’ll be fine. As for the defense, Sunday was an off day for them where inexplicably, nothing can go right, which happens to everyone since the history of mankind. It’s just more alarming considering the opponent we played. As John B said, Bowles time is just up. It’s not an indictment of his intelligence or lack of FB knowledge but just a fact that his capital with the fanbase and team has ran out. Also with an apparent franchise QB in the house, the pressure to develop him properly made the seat that much hotter. Also hope that the Johnson really take time to evaluate keeping Macc or not. The decision to switching regimes can’t be taken lightly and can’t be done in haste and emotion.
