Injury update: DeVante Parker considered week-to-week

DeVante Parker is once again struggling to stay healthy.

Surprise surprise... DeVante Parker is injured again.

According to Joe Schad of the Palm Beach Post, Parker suffered an AC joint sprain in his left shoulder and will be evaluated on a week-to-week basis. Tom Pelissero of NFL.com has reported that Parker will not need surgery. After Sunday’s loss the the Green Bay Packers, the former first-round draft pick was seen in the locker room with his left arm in a sling. His availability for Miami’s Nov. 25 contest against the Indianapolis Colts is up in the air, but he’ll have this week’s bye to rest his ailing shoulder.

After failing to stay on the field through his first three seasons in the NFL, DeVante Parker’s health has taken a further downturn in his fourth campaign with the Miami Dolphins. Through Week 10, the much maligned wideout has played in only five games, recording 14 catches for 225 yards over that span.

The Dolphins selected Parker in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft with hopes of seeing him blossom into one of the league’s premier threats on the perimeter. However, a series of injuries has kept the athletic talent from reaching his true potential. Parker has yet to play a full 16-game slate or reach 750 yards in a single season.

After years of disappointment, some fans began calling for Parker to be moved before this season’s trade deadline, but the Dolphins chose to retain him following Albert Wilson’s season ending hip injury.

Miami’s front office exercised Parker’s $9.378 million fifth-year option for the 2019 season, keeping him under team control through next year. However, the option is guaranteed only for injury, meaning the team could choose to release him during the offseason if the pass catcher’s on-field contribution doesn’t improve through the rest of the season.
