The veteran DE talks about playing against his former teammate.
When players face their former teams, there is always that little extra motivation, especially if the team traded you away.
We saw it earlier in the year with Beau Allen and Vinny Curry, who arguably played their best games of the season that week and we will see it again this week with Jason Pierre-Paul.
When the Buccaneers traded a third round draft pick for JPP, there were some mixed emotions from Buccaneer fans on whether or not the third round pick was too high, but the way things are turning out, Tampa Bay got an absolute steal out of a third round pick.
Pierre Paul will return to the Metlife stadium this weekend in search of his first sack in three games. Pierre Paul has eight sacks on the season, but hasn’t recorded once since week eight against the Bengals.
JPP was asked about what this week means to him and what it will be like playing against Eli Manning.
“Eli is Eli, man. I know one thing – if he’s hot, he’s going to continue being hot,” Pierre-Paul said. “We’ve got to get after him early and he knows I’m coming. I’m coming Eli – I’m coming. Just letting you know. “
Manning won’t be the only player that JPP has his sights on this weekend. The Giants also have a star running back named Saquon Barkley. I don’t know if you’ve heard about him, but he’s pretty damn good and if the Buccaneers want to win this game, it literally starts with stopping Barkley on 1st and 2nd down because he will get the ball in some capacity. JPP has a simple, yet effective strategy when it comes to stopping Barkley.
“Tackle, that’s it. You know obviously he’s been doing great, but tackle. I’m going to be okay,” Pierre-Paul said.
It’s a game the Buccaneers should win and also a game the defense should perform up to standards. The Giants offensive line is still one of the worst in the league and they are a 2-7 football team. If Koetter and company have any hope of saving their jobs, the Buccaneers need to win and win convincingly over teams they should beat.
