Monday Night Football, Week 12. It’ll be tough to match last week’s gem between the Rams and the Chiefs. Tonight the Tennessee Titans travel to the Lone Star State to take on the Houston Texans.
The 5-5 Titans come into this game fresh off a big loss to the surging Indianapolis Colts. The Titans have lost four of their last six games and are slowly sinking out of the playoff race. They have been an offensively challenged team, currently ranking 29th in the NFL in points scored. Their offensive struggles have been offset by a defense currently ranked 2nd in the NFL in fewest points allowed. Oft injured quarterback Marcus Mariota is good to go for this game, providing some hope for the struggling Titans offense. The last time the Titans faced the Texans in September 2018 the Titans emerged with a hard fought 20-17 home victory.
The 7-3 Texans currently occupy first place in the AFC South and are vying for a first round bye in the playoffs. The Texans come into the game red hot, winners of seven straight, though a glance at their schedule reveals no elite teams among their victims. The best team the Texans have beaten all year is the Indianapolis Colts, calling into question just how good the Texans really are. The Texans have a very good defense, ranked 6th in the NFL in fewest points allowed, and a middling offense, ranked 17th in points scored. If the Texans are to stay in the hunt for a first round bye they’ll need to take care of business at home against their division rivals.
It’s the Titans and the Texans in an AFC South showdown on Monday Night Football with major playoff implications for both teams.
