NFL flexes 49ers-Seahawks out of Sunday Night Football

We all saw this one coming.

In news that should not shock anyone, the NFL is flexing out the December 2nd Sunday Night Football game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Seattle Seahawks. In their place, the San Diego Chargers and Pittsburgh Steelers will go into prime time. The 49ers/Seahawks game has been moved to 1:25 P.M. PST on FOX earlier that day.

The Steelers made the announcement via their Twitter page.

The decision was an obvious and foregone conclusion. The 49ers sit at 2-8 and are without their starting quarterback who net them the generous amount of 2018 prime time games in Jimmy Garoppolo. The Seahawks provide some intrigue, being cornerback Richard Sherman’s first return to his former team, but neither is sniffing the NFC West division title and the Seahawks are clawing for a wild card spot at best. The 49ers are all but out of the playoff hunt entirely with their record.

The recent Monday night loss to the New York Giants will now have been the 49ers final prime time game for the season. They had three appearances in 2018, a step up from their lone Thursday Night Football game in 2017.

We all knew this was coming, so it’s not exactly devastating news, but here’s a nice little stat to point out that I’ll leave you with:
