The New York Jets lost their fifth straight game, to their division rivals the New England Patriots, to fall to 3-8 on the season. Lost game, lost season, soon to be lost decade; the Jets are just lost. The power rankings reflect this.
Jets: 28 (last week: 29)
29. Jets (last week: 29)
Allowed 28.4 points per game during five-game losing streak, and defense doesn’t have one takeaway. Still a long way from being competitive.
31. New York Jets (last week: 31)
The only way for the Jets to salvage anything positive out of this season is if rookie QB Sam Darnold gets healthy, gets back into the lineup and finishes well. Otherwise, there’s basically nothing about which the Jets can feel good.
29. New York Jets (last week 29)
Toughest game left: Week 17 at New England. They’re all difficult when you’ve lost five straight and have a 21.5 percent chance of losing out, per ESPN data, but the absolute toughest will be the season finale. Aside from the obvious reason -- good team versus bad team -- the Jets have dropped seven straight on the road in this series. In all likelihood, it will be Todd Bowles’ final game as coach.
With the obvious proviso that power rankings are stupid, unless they praise the Jets, in which case they’re awesome, what do you think? Where should the Jets rank in the NFL power rankings?
