Reshad Jones to be benched for first quarter

The Miami Dolphins will sit safety Reshad Jones for the first quarter, according to the Miami Herald’s Armandol Salguero. Jones pulled himself out of last week’s game in the first quarter, a move that, it is speculated, came after the team looked to rotate him out of the game for rookie Minkah Fitzpatrick. Dolphins head coach Adam Gase had said that, if the team were to discipline Jones for the situation, it would be handled internally and not announced.

Now, it appears that, without announcing it, the punishment will be obvious as Fitzpatrick starts in place of Jones.

Salguero states that there could be more punishment that has not been known, but that the team is not expected to fine Jones under the “conduct detrimental” clause, which would have allowed them to remove guarantees from Jones’ contract. That could have meant up to $11 million Jones would not receive if he were released before his contract is completed.

Jones, according to Salguero, apologized to the team for his actions last week.

Miami is preparing to face the Green Bay Packers this afternoon. They will do it for the first 15 minutes without Jones.
