The San Francisco 49ers and New York Giants released their first practice participation reports for Week 10, and the 49ers defense has some question marks. Linebacker Reuben Foster (hamstring) and strong safety Jaquiski Tartt both sat out Thursday’s practice. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said both are questionable this week.
The 49ers rolled out Fred Warner and Malcolm Smith as their two starting linebackers last week against Oakland. Mark Nzeocha and Elijah Lee rotated in fairly regularly, while linebacker Dekoda Watson played almost exclusively as an edge rusher. If Foster cannot play on Monday, I don’t expect much change to the rotation.
Tyvis Powell got the start in place of Tartt against the Raiders, with rookie Marcell Harris getting some work as an extra safety in the box. Powell would likely start again, but it would be nice to see a little more of Harris. Defensive coordinator Robert Saleh meets with the media on Friday, so we’ll see if he has more insight on the rotation.
