FootballOutsiders released their updated playoff odds on Tuesday morning and two teams stand ahead of the pack for the two NFC wild card berths ... and they play each other this Sunday. The Carolina Panthers have a 55.2% chance to win a wild card spot, including a 33.9% shot to get the 5-seed. The Seattle Seahawks have a 45% chance, with a 24.2% shot at the 5-seed and a 20.8% to be the last team in.
The Panthers host the Seahawks at 10 AM PT on Sunday.
The winner of that game should see their playoff odds skyrocket, while the loser can at least keep hope alive thanks to recent losses by the Minnesota Vikings, Philadelphia Eagles, Atlanta Falcons, and Green Bay Packers. The Vikings have a slightly better chance to make the playoffs (45.9%) but that’s because they still have a shot at winning the NFC North; they are 34.5% to win a wild cart spot.
According to 538, Seattle has a 38% chance to win this week, with Carolina favored by 3.5.
I picked the favorites and also gave the Seahawks a win over the Panthers. It ended up with both Carolina and Seattle on the outside looking in, for now. If Packers beat Vikings, it gets Seattle back in. Must root for Washington on Thursday too. pic.twitter.com/PfQJQyN2dE
