This is complicated. https://t.co/O5r2gJL1rT
— Burgundy Blog (@BurgundyBlog) November 19, 2018
im not saying this cause i dislike him, but he should retire. hes not going to be rehabbed until halfway through next season. this is such a brutal life changing injury even with the advanced care hell get from the org.
— informed burner (@InformedBurner) November 19, 2018
This probably matters to nobody but...yes, I do have shots of Alex Smith's injury. Yes they are somewhat graphic. No, I didn't think the engagement I'd get was worth posting them.
— iShootSports ⚾️⚽️ (@JoeGlo1) November 19, 2018
Instead I'd rather focus on the crazy amount of respect players showed the #Redskins QB. #HTTR pic.twitter.com/K6tSSW3AaD
From The Aftermath: The season (but not career) is over for #Redskins QB Alex Smith, who is well-protected with his last contract extension, either way. Plus, Mark Sanchez is on board. pic.twitter.com/XUyYidTzyi

Alex Smith recovery could take 6-8 months, by @Matthew_Paras. https://t.co/hqVj0y3Na6 #Redskins #AlexSmith
— WashTimes Sports (@WashTimesSports) November 19, 2018
Jay Gruden said he doesnt believe there was any ligament damage to Smith’s leg. Says the recovery time likely 6-8 months.
— John Keim (@john_keim) November 19, 2018
I’ve said more than once now, that I was giving Bruce praise for actually coming out of the Kirk fiasco in a decent situation, and it’s starting to look like it’s going to be one last albatross he hung around our neck before he leaves, instead lol.
— Strick 9 (@Spider_Skinz) November 19, 2018
That part is key. Not being able to free up cap space. That means no Big FA. Have to decide on higher pick rookie QB route (affordable) before clear picture of Smith recovery. Scary. https://t.co/D2RkTZrb3J
— Paul Conner (@P_ConnerJr) November 19, 2018
Gruden says the team has no choice but to move on quickly after Smith’s injury. Still a lot to play for.

Got a primer on complicated leg frax from an ortho buddy. Open/compound aspect more concerning than spiral. Open means exposure of periosteum, potential disruption of blood supply, signif greater risk of infection (which can become chronic) and non-union (poor healing).
— Burgundy Blog (@BurgundyBlog) November 20, 2018
If Alex’s injury truly puts his career in jeopardy & #Redskins need to find a new long term QB, under no circumstance can Bruce be allowed to make that choice.
— Chris Merl (@cmerlterp) November 20, 2018
In 9 years, these are the resources Bruce has dedicated to QB without getting it right. A 5th swing would be insanity. pic.twitter.com/axRRdHKHOo
from two years ago, but appropriate now: A day in the life of Colt McCoy as a backup quarterback for the Redskins https://t.co/NsgnRYA71Y

Redskins have reason to believe backup QB Colt McCoy can keep season afloat https://t.co/kUKUWs2URr via @usatoday

If you missed Clinton Portis on the show today, listen to the interview here. He thinks Colt McCoy will bring 'more explosive' offense. https://t.co/XoaSH7gS0B

DJ Swearinger discussed Colt McCoy vs. Alex Smith. He thinks McCoy will put points on the board. https://t.co/j6rcgI40MC

Clinton Portis sure sounds like he's all-in on Colt McCoy: "Colt can throw, man. Colt can play some football." (via @granthpaulsen & @funnydanny) https://t.co/xmI6mzqQiS

If Colt stays healthy and plays well I think they will do what the Eagles did this year. Let Colts start the season until Smith is fully ready. Either way they will have to draft a QB earlier than what they probably were planning.
— Real Talk w/ Choot & Chak (@RealTalkwCC) November 19, 2018
Jay on Colt: "I think the competitive fire that he has will rub off on everybody, and that will be a good thing for a lot of people."
— Burgundy Blog (@BurgundyBlog) November 19, 2018
“He’s a guy who’s been in the hopper waiting to come out.” -Gruden on Colt
— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) November 19, 2018
#Redskins won't have to change their scheme or approach much with McCoy. That's important in the middle of the season.
— Andy Benoit (@Andy_Benoit) November 19, 2018
More Swearinger on McCoy: "Hopefully this week Colt can take care of the ball and he also can, like I said, take some of those shots downfield that I think we've been needing. If we've got big receivers, why not throw the ball downfield and give those guys a chance?"
— Chris Lingebach (@ChrisLingebach) November 19, 2018
"You hate to see this, but Theismann gave way to [Jay] Schroeder, who really picked this team up for a while. And Joe was having a bad year. And Alex wasn't having a very great year either, and now McCoy, we'll see if he can step up and try and lead this team." - @Snide_Remarks

If Colt McCoy take us to the playoffs and wins us a playoff game I will get his name tattooed on my ass

Mark Sanchez has not been in the NFL this year. He spent last year in Chicago but did not appear in a game. His last regular season appearance came w/ the Cowboys in 2016. Why Sanchez? The 32 y.o. played for #Redskins O.C. Matt Cavanaugh when both were w/ the Jets.
— Tarik El-Bashir (@Tarik_ElBashir) November 19, 2018
In moving Alex Smith to IR and signing Mark Sanchez, the Redskins also waived tackle Jarron Jones from their practice squad. Will they add a developmental QB?
— Matthew Paras (@Matthew_Paras) November 19, 2018
Yeah ... why preserve a division lead and reach the playoffs when you can have the peace and quiet of tumbling to the bottom of the standings and blaming injuries?
— Mike Tanier (@MikeTanier) November 19, 2018
Gruden said that in addition to past experience with Redskins offensive coaches the team wanted to sign Sanchez for his playoff and big game experience
— Les Carpenter (@Lescarpenter) November 19, 2018
Lotta folks are making a big point that the Redskins are doomed if Sanchez ends up playing.
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) November 20, 2018
Duh.
Teams arent built to win w 3rd string QB. Plenty of teams cant win with QB1
Gruden said Dunbar is close to returning. He’ll run off to the side tomorrow
— Matthew Paras (@Matthew_Paras) November 19, 2018
Gruden says Dunbar is probably “closer than anybody” to playing on Thursday
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) November 19, 2018
Gruden said he’s not sure about the status for Trent Williams and Chris Thompson for Thursday. Said Williams was close Sunday; isn’t sure if four days enough time for his thumb to feel that much better.
— John Keim (@john_keim) November 19, 2018
The #Redskins finished Sunday's game with three sacks and have now registered at least one sack for the 17th consecutive game.

The #Redskins have run it on 60% of their 1st&10 plays this season. Part of the reason for that is Alex Smith often choosing to hand off on RPO's. Curious to see if that number changes in the coming weeks.

The legend of Trey Quinn only grows.

Where the #Redskins have ranked in yards per play and passing yards per play during Jay Gruden's five seasons:
— Grant Paulsen (@granthpaulsen) November 19, 2018
2018: 28th and 27th
2017: 14th and 12th
2016: 2nd and 2nd
2015: 10th and 6th
2014: 10th and 10th
Gruden explained his timeout rationale yesterday saying he would have preferred to have his timeouts in the 2 minute instead of burning timeouts and having a little more time and no timeouts. After the Norman penalty, he had no choice but to burn them.

Everyone’s a coach
— Chick Hernandez (@MrChickSports) November 19, 2018
Interesting play. #Redskins QB Colt McCoy likely thinks he's getting Cover 0, so slides his line to the left with a "lester" call, ensuring the free rusher comes from off the edge where he can see him. Texans don't run Cover 0, but the free rusher comes & McCoy makes him miss pic.twitter.com/SWRlczhNEd
— Mark Bullock (@MarkBullockNFL) November 19, 2018
Love the 4th down call by Jay Gruden, but like the set up and design even more. Everyone thinks this is going to AP. Vernon Davis sneaks inside Clowney, leaving him unblocked, and works up to the safety. Clowney dives inside, McCoy gets the 1st down easily pic.twitter.com/aANUFq806s

I seriously wouldn't be too worried about Hue Jackson providing valuable info to the Bengals defense before Browns-Bengals. Hue didn't even sit in on the spring and summer install of Todd Haley's offense. He has marginally more insight than the PFF guy grading their games.
