South Carolina at Ole Miss NOON SEC Network
- The Goofy Gamecocks take their talents to the Grove and do battle with the Reeling Rebels. South Carolina sports a 4-3 record and has alternated wins and losses this year. They may need the Hurricane Florence induced makeup game against Akron to make it to a bowl aka the Florida State 2017 season. The Rebels are one win away from bowl eligibility but can’t go to one due to NCAA violations.
South Carolina prospects to watch
1. Deebo Samuel 5’11 215 WR RS Senior
- Deebo is one of the most dynamic athletes at receiver in the nation. He’s South Carolina’s version of Percy Harvin. A do it all weapon for the Gamecocks that also returns kicks. Above average route runner. Quicker than fast. A guy who is willing to out tough the defender for a contested ball despite being 5’11. Profiles similarly to Kendall Wright.
2. Bryan Edwards 6’2 205 WR Junior
- One of the best receivers in the SEC that hardly anyone talks about due to his teammate Samuel. He’s a physical force of nature that can go up and get it. A solid athlete that can stretch defenses vertically if needed.
Ole Miss prospects to watch
1. A.J Brown 6’1 225 WR Junior
- Projects to be an excellent slot weapon at the pro level. He knows how to run routes and when to vary his speed and depth in each route. He’s very good. WR4 on my board.
2. Greg Little 6’5 325 OT Junior
- Little is the best offensive tackle prospect in the country. Has the potential to be a franchise type of left tackle in the pros. Lateral agility and size are huge pluses. IQ is a plus. Laremy Tunsil who? He has that kind of potential and talent. OT1.
#6 Georgia at #9 Kentucky 3:30 PM CBS
- Raise your hand if you thought this game would decide the SEC East before the year started. The Cardiac Cats are coming off a literally last play win against Missouri (untimed down due to a somewhat bogus PI call). Georgia struggled with Florida before ultimately pulling away. Does Kentucky have enough passing offense to keep up with a not so consistent Georgia offense?
Georgia prospects to watch
1. Deandre Baker 5’11 180 CB Senior
- It can be argued that Baker is the best cornerback prospect in the class. He’s always around the ball it seems. Plays hard every play. Has great athleticism and generally keeps up with opposing receivers. Ball skills are improving. Fundamentally sound. It will be interesting if his listed size is accurate or not. CB3.
2. D’Andre Walker 6’2 240 EDGE Senior
- Walker has been a revelation this season as he’s the leading force off the edge for the Dogs. Work ethic is a plus. Frame is another. He’s very well coached. Finally showing out as a senior after sitting behind major NFL talent. Georgia’s leader in sacks.
3. Terry Godwin 5’11 185 WR Senior
- The go to weapon for QB Jake Fromm. Has a habit of making incredible catches out of nowhere. Excellent blocker when asked to do it. Technically sound as a route runner. Not the best athlete at receiver but has just enough speed.
4. Mecole Hardman 5’10 183 WR Junior
- He’s arguably one of the fastest receivers in the country. A big play specialist for the Dogs offense. Could be something special as a slot receiver at the next level. Elite speed.
Kentucky prospects to watch
1. Benny Snell 5’10 223 RB Junior
- Snell is probably the most underrated running back in the country due to the depth of the class and the program he plays for. A physical power back that can pound the rock at least 30 times without fatigue. Pass blocking is a plus. Vision and IQ are a plus as well. Rarely has yards for loss on his resume. Struggled last week but was a key decoy piece.
2. Josh Allen 6’4 230 EDGE Senior
- He’s a pretty good athlete for the position and should test well. Flashed a ton of potential over the past few weeks. Can set the edge and play the run well. Not the most fundamentally sound but is improving. He needs to bulk up to play on the line in the NFL.
#13 West Virginia at #17 Texas 3:30 PM FOX
- An old fashioned Big 12 shootout in Austin is on the books. Every game is critical in the Big 12 race now and WVU can take the outright lead if certain results occur. Texas can solidify their grip on first place if they can win. Can the Horns bounce back after a demoralizing loss last week?
West Virginia prospects to watch
1. Will Grier 6’1 214 QB RS Senior
- Grier is one of the best pocket passers in the class. He makes everything seem so effortless in terms of moving the pocket, making the right reads, and has enough arm talent to make the throws. Has enough athleticism to make things work when things are not on schedule. Footwork is a plus. The frame is a question that needs answering he’s listed at 6’1 214. Offensive scheme does not do him any favors as he plays in the Air Raid offense. He should be an invite to the Tua Tour in New York. He’s very good this year and is in contention for top QB taken.
2. Gary Jennings, Jr 6’1 209 WR Senior
- The “other guy” in the potent Mountaineers’ passing attack. He’s an reliable weapon for them. The receptions and yards are likely going to be down compared to his junior season but the touchdowns have increased. He’s a solid talent.
3. Yodny Cajuste 6’5 315 OT RS Senior
- One of the more underrated offensive tackle prospects due to the system he plays in. Football IQ is a plus. Technician. Fundamentally sound. Experienced as a senior.
Texas prospects to watch
1. Kris Boyd 6’0 195 CB Senior
- The leader of a resurgent Horns secondary. A dominant playmaker. Size and speed are a plus. Has been excellent thus far into the 2018 season. One of the best corners in the nation.
2. Collin Johnson 6’6 215 WR Junior
- The Horns’ jump ball specialist. Route running is just average but he uses his size well to box out defenders to make a tough catch. The main target for the QB but QB issues have prevented him from being the true dominant threat he could become. A willing blocker most of the time. He has made the spectacular catch routine.
3. Brandon Jones 6’0 205 S Junior
- Jones is a safety prospect that no one talks about nationally. He’s an intriguing talent that had to grow up in a hurry due to various reasons. Had some growing pains due to being on the field so early into his career but has matured. A ball hawk. He was solely responsible for the loss against Oklahoma State last week when he barely escaped the end zone on a kick return, which Texas gave up a TD on the subsequent OSU drive.
4. Gary Johnson 6’0 225 LB Senior
- A player that is always around the ball it seems. He’s risen up the boards rapidly during his senior season. A bit undersized for the linebacker position. Football IQ is a plus and is very fundamentally sound. Outstanding as a junior but has elevated his play as a senior.
#14 Penn State at #5 Michigan 3:45 PM ESPN
- Penn State just refuses to stop winning ugly in Big Ten play, coming off a grinding 30-24 win over Iowa. Michigan is coming off a relatively easy win over rival Michigan State in a game that had all sorts of weather from snow, lightning, rain and even sun. Can PSU keep up its close wins?
Penn State prospects to watch
1. Trace McSorely 6’0 195 QB RS Senior
- A carbon copy of Johnny Football with better passing ability and an attitude to match. Not much of a future at the NFL level as a QB due to size questions, unfortunately but a fun college QB. Had led Penn State to some dramatic victories in 2018. He’s a good college player but not a great NFL prospect.
2. Juwan Johnson 6’4 229 WR RS Junior
- A similar type of prospect to Allen Lazard / Kelvin Benjamin. A big body receiver that will box out smaller defenders but isn’t the most athletic guy there. McSorely’s main target regardless of situation and score. Has been injured some in the 2018 season but should play this week.
Michigan prospects to watch
1. Devin Bush, Jr 5’11 222 LB Junior
- Bush is a force to be reckoned with in both the middle and outside. He’s undersized for the position but is very fundamentally sound. A bowling ball of energy. The leading tackler for the Wolverines with 45 tackles, 6 tackles for loss, and 3.5 sacks. Leads the team in sacks.
2. Karan Higdon 5’9 190 RB Senior
- One of the more underrated running back prospects in the nation. Has had a decent senior year thus far. He’s a solid threat to score from anywhere on the field but prefers to grind away on tough carries. Not the most experienced as a senior. Size questions will abound at the next level. Has 120 carries for 687 yards and 6 touchdowns.
3. Chase Winovich 6’3 253 EDGE RS Senior
- He’s one of the better edge rushers that no one talks about. A relentless worker that won’t quit until the echo of the whistle. A load to handle for offensive tackles. He may be limited athletically but he just doesn’t stop working to get the sack. He’s third on the team with 39 tackles and tied for second in sacks with 3. Personality may rub some front office folks the wrong way.
#1 Alabama at #3 LSU 8 PM CBS
- It’s Bama vs LSU for the SEC West crown. Enough said. Can Tua do it again against the best defense he’s faced all year? Can the Tigers muster enough offense to keep up? There’s no better atmosphere in college football when LSU is good and plays a home game at night. None.
Alabama prospects to watch
1. Ross Pierschbacher 6’3 304 OL RS Senior
- One of the best guard prospects in the country moved to center as a senior. He has been pretty solid as the center of the Tide OL. Character and work ethic are major pluses. A mauler type with some high level technique in his arsenal. He would fit in nicely in Nashville given the Titans’ interior OL issues.
2. Jonah Williams 6’5 301 OT Junior
- The best tackle prospect in the nation. The franchise at left tackle. Footwork and anchor are elite. Technician. Has the prerequisite size and strength to make it to the next level. Should come out as a junior. Nothing more to see here, folks.
4. Isaiah Buggs 6’4 292 DL Senior
- The next guy up in the defensive trenches. He had an outstanding junior campaign in 2017 and has been impressive this year thus far. Raekwon Davis rightly gets all the attention but Buggs deserves some press as well. He’s seriously talented and should be a first round pick.
5. Quinnen Williams 6’3 285 DL RS Sophomore
- Every year, there’s a guy on the Bama defensive line that breaks out from nowhere. Q is that guy this year. He’s been making a run at being the best defensive tackle in the country. Has a bevy of pass rush moves in his arsenal. Holds up well in the point of attack. Takes up residence in opponents’ backfield all game and doesn’t leave.
LSU prospects to watch
1. Greedy Williams 6’1 182 CB RS Sophomore
- Williams has the speed and athleticism thing down pat along with the height. Lateral agility is a major plus. Can keep up with any receiver in the nation. Has cleaned up his inconsistency this year thus far. A Jim Thorpe semifinalist. He has a compelling case as the best corner in the nation.
2. Grant Delpit 6’3 203 S Sophomore
- Delpit has been a surprise this season for the Tigers. He’s one of the best safeties in the nation, regardless of class and will be firmly on the radar as a junior next year. A ball hawk with sound fundamentals. Size isn’t a question. Keep an eye out for him in 2019. Recently named as a Jim Thorpe semifinalist. S1 next year is pretty much a lock.
3. Devin White 6’0 240 LB Junior
- Has been better than advertised during his junior campaign thus far. A big hitter that’s also a playmaker in the pass defense. Unfortunately he will miss the first half against Bama due to a terrible targeting call. ILB1 and it hasn’t been close.
4. Kristian Fulton 6’1 195 CB Junior
- Fulton is a former five star recruit that finally got on the field as a junior after some issues with the NCAA drug policy. He was caught trying to fake out the drug test by using another teammate’s “sample” in high school. Had he not done that, he would’ve passed the test anyway as the test was for a completely different drug. LSU officials went to bat for him in the appeal that the archaic NCAA finally approved of. Has shown some rust after being out for so long. Should be an intriguing talent next year if he stays in school.
Bonus Games to watch
#20 Texas A&M at Auburn NOON ESPN
- Jimbo takes his crew to the Plains to take on a hapless and moribund Tigers offense. Watch for Marlon Davidson and Derrick Brown of Auburn.
Florida State at #21 NC State 3:30 PM ABC
- Will the Noles keep it within 40? Can they mentally recover after getting called out in the media for quitting by their own head coach? NC State WR Kelvin Harmon is the real deal. FSU EDGE Brian Burns is Justin Graver’s Josh Sweat to me.
#15 Utah at Arizona State 4 PM
- The Pac-12 RB that no one talks about, Zach Moss should put on a show. WR1 N’Keal Harry is that DUDE. Should be fun.
Duke at Miami 7 PM ESPN2
- Does anyone want to win the Coastal division? Duke QB Daniel Jones could be the second best QB prospect in the class. Should be a fun test against the Canes talented defense.
Louisiana Tech at #18 Mississippi State 7:30 PM SEC Network
- Not the most attractive match on paper but LTU EDGE Jaylon Ferguson vs. the Miss State duo should be intriguing for a bit.
Stanford at Washington 9 PM PAC-12 Network
- Can Bryce Love turn it around against a reeling but still talented Huskies defense?
