On Sunday the Los Angeles Chargers came to Century Link field and defeated the Seattle Seahawks 25-17 by a surprisingly effective offense that put up 375 yards and 19 points, which was enough to hold off this year’s young Hawks team.
The Seahawks ground attack struggled a bit in this game, and the result was an offensive performance that was far below what Russell Wilson and his teammates had produced in recent weeks. Obviously, the Chargers are a much better team than the Hawks had been facing, however, the fact that Seattle found itself down 25-10 late in the fourth quarter at home is completely out of sorts for the expectations most fans hold for the team.
In any case, the Hawks left several opportunities on the field, whether it was Janikowski’s missed field goal, Wilson’s second pick-6 of the season or the refs simply being bad at their jobs, it was a frustrating game all around for Hawks fans. So, without beating around the bush any further, here are some reactions to the game from Twitter.
To start, let’s see what fans had to say about the refs.
First-half grades

Chargers: B
Seahawks: C-
Officials: F@MikeDugar: Incomplete
The way I see it, the Seahawks gave up a killer 3rd and 15 deep in Chargers territory. Also missed a pick. Make one of those plays and the refs don’t matter. https://t.co/HFbJpyZNdJ

NFL refs giving the game to LA Chargers #badcalls #Seahawks
— Menen C Kim (@menen_c) November 4, 2018
Fans are really mad at the refs but the #Chargers marched the length of the field in under a minute. #Seahawks defense not doing nearly enough to keep them in this game. 19-7 now with 1:10 left in the half.
— Andy Patton (@andypattonSEA) November 4, 2018
Are these refs BLIND?! HOW MUCH ARE THE CHARGERS PAYING YOU? #Seahawks #ThisIsBullshit
— Victoria (@Ray_ofSunShines) November 4, 2018
These refs have been horrific today in this Seahawks/Chargers game.
— Joey Wilkinson ♱ (@AssassinateHate) November 4, 2018
Absolute GARBAGE offensive PI call against the @Seahawks ! Refs are the @Chargers 12th man today... #LACvsSEA #BadRefs
— Leif Morgensen (@Norse76) November 4, 2018
The Seahawks // Chargers refs are being paid off now I’m sure of it. The Chargers heel was OUT of bounds. @Seahawks365 @Seahawks @Chargers

#Seahawks down to the Chargers 19-10 at halftime. (Other than the refs) What or who has stood out to you the most in the 1st half?

I'm guessing the refs are chargers fans #Seahawks #chargers

This is talking about the Rams vs. Saints game but ironically the same exact argument could be made in the Seahawks vs. Chargers game right now. NFL refs man.... https://t.co/7fZjuH612Y

On that touchdown that to me should have been brought back to the 9 before half, the Hawks might have actually benefited from the Chargers being awarded the score. It gave them more time to attempt to score. Obviously, there’s a chance the Hawks hold the Chargers out of the end zone there, but if the Chargers were given the ball at the 9, they run Gordon on first down to chew clock and then have second and third down to try and score. The Hawks ended up with enough time to put three points on the board thanks to a Sebastian Janikowski field goal on the next drive, which is likely more than they would have gotten had Mike Williams been rule out of bounds on the play.
In any case, it was one year ago today that the Seahawks lost the ugly game to the Washington Redskins, a game in which Wilson tossed two interceptions in Washington territory and Blair Walsh missed three field goals. Well, the kicking game wasn’t a whole lot better on Sunday for the Hawks as Janikowski missed a 51 yard field goal and had a horrible onsides kick attempt. However, no matter how bad Janikowski’s day was, he didn’t even enter the discussion for worst kicker in the game, as Caleb Sturgis of the Chargers took that without any fight.
Doug Baldwin's gain is wiped out by a call on David Moore for pass interference. Janikowski then goes on to miss the field goal opportunity to keep the score at a frustrating 7-12 for the Seahawks. #Seahawks #LACvsSEA

LOL; Pete is gonna play for a 50 yard FG that Janikowski is gonna miss again.
— Tom Gialanella (@mrtommygman) November 4, 2018
MISSED FG: S. Janikowski (SEA) 51 yard FG is no good. #Chargers 12 #Seahawks 7#LACvsSEA #RedZone #FantasyZone#FightForEachOther #Seahawks
— Red Zone Channel (@RedZoneChannel) November 4, 2018
I don’t care that he missed. I don’t care that he’s 50 years old. I just find it crazy that the chargers said no to janikowski, someone who made field goals for fun his whole career, and went with Sturgis/Aguayo. HOOOO my god.
— #SturgisOut (@DepressedBolt) November 4, 2018
Lol the announcers set up that janikowski miss perfectly
— mister fister (@procrastadroit) November 4, 2018
Beer belly Jankowski hit the right upright on a 51 yard field goal and missed.

Caleb Sturgis was trying to break his own leg, I think
— Field Gulls (@FieldGulls) November 4, 2018
Thank God for Caleb Sturgis

Have a day Caleb Sturgis. After missing his second PAT gets called for tripping.

Welcome back Caleb sturgis you dumb fucking idiot how many kicks can you possibly miss
— Joseph DeMartini (@Bigsexyjoe_77) November 4, 2018
Caleb Sturgis is now 4-9 on extra points the last 4 games he’s been in. 9/12 on field goals. But true to their kicking woes, the Chargers waived Mike Badgley, 7/7 EP, 3/3 FG to give Sturgis another shot with injured quadriceps.
— Matt Colucci (@mc_lucci_) November 4, 2018
*cries to sleep*
#Chargers scored a touchdown and a returning Caleb Sturgis misses the extra point and QB Philip Rivers is livid. Chargers cut Mike Badgley earlier in the week.

And then of course there was the second pick-6 of the season for Russell Wilson.
On Russell Wilson's pick-six it looks like thought the nickel CB (King) would carry the seam route but he doesn't in Cover 3. Not a good throw... #Seahawks #LACvsSEApic.twitter.com/UdhwmLrkhV
— Samuel Gold (@SamuelRGold) November 4, 2018
Russell Wilson: Pick-six tonight in 4th qtr to the left gave Chargers a 25-10 lead with 6:44 remaining. Week 2 at Chicago, pick-six in 4th qtr to the left gave the Bears a 24-10 lead with 6:37 remaining. Both losses. That's not like Wilson at all. #Seahawks
— Aaron J. Fentress (@AaronJFentress) November 5, 2018
Desmond King just got a #PickSix - Only the 3rd time that's happened to Russell Wilson.
— Derek Andonian (@DerekAndonian) November 4, 2018
Only downside is, this one really was a pick SIX, because Sturgis missed his SECOND extra point of the game https://t.co/FoA12qQ6pP
Unbelievably bad read by Russell Wilson who throws a pick-six. Sturgis misses the extra point and it's 25-10 with 6:44 left. Yikes.
— Andy Patton (@andypattonSEA) November 4, 2018
Russell Wilson threw his 3 pick six of his career today. Buffalo's Nate Peterman, throws one pick -six per start.
— Kevin Hollingsworth (@KRHollingsworth) November 4, 2018
@PFTCommenter @BarstoolBigCat Nathan Peterman & Russell Wilson both threw their 3rd career pick six today but Wilson needed 100 more games than Peterman to do it. Peterman is on pace for 46 pick sixes by the time he reaches the same point in his career. Better nose for endzone?
— Cole Dazice (@unrefinedcole) November 4, 2018
So, it’s a loss, and it stings, but the Seahawks don’t have any time to sit around licking their wounds, as they need to hop on a plane to Los Angeles later this week to take on the Los Angeles Rams, who will not be at all upset after having suffered their first defeat of the season on Sunday to the New Orleans Saints.
