“Undersized” prospects deliver big performances

College football prospects of the week

You can’t have a strong performance from a team’s offense or defense without dominant individuals within the unit. For running back Trayveon Williams and linebacker Devin Bush, that was the case in how their attention grabbing play catalyzed big wins for their teams.

For Williams, his 31 carry performance for Texas A&M resulted in 238 yards and a touchdown. Williams broke four tackles and got almost 140 of his yards after contact (per PFF), continuing his career trend of creating big plays for the Aggies. The 5’9, 200 pound junior is short but backs a lot of punch and agility at the position. Teams should not overlook a back who is making big plays week in and and week out.

Speaking of undersized, Michigan’s star linebacker Devin Bush helped the Wolverines hold Rutgers to seven points in a blow out. While the Scarlet Knights are a lowly opponent, top tier prospects should deliver on weeks like this. Bush didn’t fill up the stat sheet, but he flew around the field and made plays in coverage and against the run. There will no doubt be debate about where the 5’11” linebacker belongs on an NFL defense, but there’s no doubt he belongs on one.
