He is who he is.
This season is not going how Lions fans had hoped it would. All of the good feelings following the Patriots and Packers wins are pretty much gone, and even the proudest optimistics have to feel concerned. While the team said that trading Golden Tate was not a white flag, there are plenty of reasons to start looking ahead to next season.
Hopefully the same cannot be said about your fantasy season. With only a month left in the regular season for most leagues, now becomes the time where every decision matters. There is a lot of uncertainty on the Lions roster right now which makes those choices difficult, but hold the course. It takes some faith to trust him, Matthew Stafford is the Defenses & Dragons Week 10 player of the week.
FantasyPros Ranking: QB18
FanDuel Pricing: QB20 ($6800)
To be frank, the numbers for Stafford are not exactly overwhelming. He has not reached 25 fantasy points since Week 2, and he sits at just QB18 on the year. However, aside from last week’s debacle against the Vikings, his range has been pretty defined: his five previous outings all fell between 19 and 25 points.
While this is not exactly encouraging, it should show that last week was an outlier. Keep in mind that Stafford finishes as a QB1 more often than not, and though Tate is gone, there are still plenty of weapons to go around on offense. Is this really the end of Stafford putting up quality fantasy numbers? Smart money is on no.
Obviously the experts are not high on him, putting him well outside the the starter range. This is probably due to both last week and the upcoming opponent. Chicago have been pretty stingy against quarterbacks, allowing over 20 points just three times.
Still the Lions have done well against the Bears in recent matchups and Stafford is itching to rebound from such a poor outing. The results may not be otherworldly, but they should be enough to satisfy fantasy owners. It may not be the popular decision, but be brave and trust in Stafford.
Prediction: 27-for-35, 240 yards, 3 touchdowns; 27.6 fantasy points
