Week 10: Patriots open as big favorites on the road against the Titans

Will the Patriots cover?

The (7-2) New England Patriots will take their six-game winning streak on the road in week 10 for their third away game in a four week span. The (3-4) Tennessee Titans, who face the Dallas Cowboys for Monday Night Football, are in the middle of a three-game losing streak and are underdogs at home against the Patriots.

Per a couple oddsmakers, the Patriots are 6.5-to-7 point favorites in week 10 against the Titans. This line is obviously subject to change based upon 1) the Titans’ performance on Monday Night; and 2) the health and availability of Rob Gronkowski and Sony Michel for the Patriots.

The Titans have one of the better defenses in the league, allowing an average of 1.72 points per drive, which is tied with the Houston Texans for seventh in the NFL. The Patriots will have a tough time racking up points, although they did put up 38 points on the Chicago Bears defense that leads the league with 1.54 points allowed per drive.

For context, the Patriots defense is tied for 12th with 1.89 points per drive.

On the other side of the ball, the Titans offense is atrocious, ranking 28th in points scored per drive with 1.52. That’s less than what the top-ranked Bears defense allows, so the Titans offense makes opposing defenses look like they’re the best in the league. Tennessee ranks ahead of only the Cleveland Browns, Jacksonville Jaguars, Arizona Cardinals, and Buffalo Bills and immediately behind the Miami Dolphins, Oakland Raiders, and New York Jets.

For context, the Patriots offense ranks 6th with 2.47 points per drive.

Personally, I think New England should win this game by more than a touchdown. But we’ll see how many Patriots players are available to suit up in the final game before the bye week.
