Arizona Cardinals Original Starting Offensive Line is gone for the season

With D.J. Humphries placed on injury reserve, the Arizona Cardinals have officially lost all of their original starters on the offensive line for the remainder of the season.

Here’s when they were placed on injury reserve:

  • August 7th: Center A.Q. Shipley suffered a torn ACL
  • November 13th: Right guard Justin Pugh suffered a torn ACL
  • November 26th: Right tackle Andre Smith was released
  • December 3rd: Left guard Mike Iupati suffered MCL damage to his knee
  • December 5th: Left tackle D.J. Humphries suffered a set back to his injured knee

In addition to this, they also lost their primary backup offensive linemen (G/T John Wetzel, G Jeremy Vujnovich) to IR.

Here’s what the offensive line looks like now:

  • LT Korey Cunningham: Cardinals rookie seventh-round pick started the last three games.
  • LG Colby Gossett: Drafted by the Vikings in the sixth-round this year. Was signed off of their practice squad in October and will make his first start of his career this weekend.
  • C Mason Cole: Cardinals third-round pick has started all 12 games so far.
  • RG Oday Aboushi: Free agent signing in October. Has started two games for the Cardinals and has made 28 starts in his six-year NFL career.
  • RT Will Holden: Cardinals ‘17 fifth-round pick was cut after the preseason and has spent time on the Colts and Saints practice squad. Was brought back last week and started.

The Cardinals are starting three rookies on their offensive line which is very concerning for Josh Rosen. But then again, the original starting linemen struggled throughout the season anyways. These rookies will be getting a lot of mental reps, which will be beneficial for them down the road. Hopefully their protection will be enough to keep Rosen upright and healthy.

Today they added G/T Rees Odhiambo from the Colts’ practice squad and signed veteran OT Joe Barksdale, recently released by the Chargers. OT Zack Golditch was added to the roster from the Colts’ practice squad in early November.

Including Vujnovich, the Cardinals have signed four former Colts throughout the season.

Their current group of offensive linemen are very young, with Barksdale (30) being the oldest. Barksdale and Aboushi are the Cardinals only healthy offensive linemen that have had significant starting NFL experience for multiple years.

Besides Cole, Cunningham, and Daniel Munyer, none of the other linemen currently on the Cardinals active roster were here in week one.

The Cardinals 2018 NFL season has been very disappointing with only three wins on the year and another injury bug that seems to follow this team every year. Hopefully these rookies and new additions step to the plate and perform well to help this team finish the season on a high note.
