Chiefs headlines for Monday, December 17.
The latest
Two weeks remain in the NFL season and the Chiefs, who visit Seattle on Sunday Night Football, can still choose their own playoff adventure.
Beat the Seahawks, and the Chiefs will be one step closer to their primary objective: the top seed in the AFC with homefield advantage.
AFC
x — 1. Kansas City Chiefs (11-3): AFC West leader. Does collapse against Chargers portend a bigger one? Chiefs retain inside track to home-field advantage because their division record (4-1) is better than Bolts’ (3-2). But one more slip-up opens door for Chargers to move into No. 1 spot while dropping Kansas City to fifth.
2. Houston Texans (10-4): AFC South leader. Look who’s suddenly in line for a week off in postseason. Will wrap up division with one more win.
The Seattle Seahawks lost to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday and will have to wait to clinch a playoff berth, which they have two more chances to do themselves. The Seahawks host the Kansas City Chiefs next Sunday night and a win would make them a guaranteed wild card. A loss would help the Chiefs stay in first place in the AFC, whereas if KC loses, it could be detrimental to their playoff hopes as they might fall from a first round bye to being a wild card team.
Last week was, to put it mildly, a weird week for simulations to try to comb through. The Ravens lost to the Chiefs for their first “L” in four weeks, but it wasn’t a “bad” loss per se. The Patriots lost on a miracle lateral that works one out of 100,000 times. The Saints beat the Buccaneers but didn’t look particularly clean in doing so. And the Rams lost to the Bears in a game that their offense would undoubtedly very much like to forget.

Philadelphia shocks Los Angeles in an upset, 30 to 23 | SB Nation (Eagles)
The Philadelphia Eagles are STILL ALIVE after defeating the Los Angeles Rams in a shocker, 30 to 23. The Eagles entered this game as 13-point underdogs but they weren’t ready to give up.
The Pittsburgh Steelers picked up a crucial 17-10 win against the New England Patriots in Week 15 in a game with plenty of postseason implications. But neither team looked like a polished contender Sunday.
Ben Roethlisberger suffered cracked ribs vs. Raiders | NFL
Mysteries abounded surrounding the status of Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, his ribs and a reportedly faulty X-ray machine at the Oakland Alameda Coliseum.
‘Rejuvenated’ Colts pitch improbable shutout of Cowboys | NFL
After weeks of drifting down that lonely highway known as irrelevancy, the Colts took the off-ramp to prominence Sunday in Lucas Oil Stadium, dominating the Cowboys in a way no opponent has in 15 years. And while they do not control their future, as it relates to guaranteeing themselves a playoff spot, there is no grousing from within. Life is about living in the moment, not fretting about the future.
McVay on Rams’ woes: We’ve got to ‘figure it out fast’ | NFL
“We’ve got to be able to figure this out and figure it out fast,” McVay told reporters. “Because these last couple weeks, we’re doing things totally uncharacteristic of what good football teams do, of what we’ve done through the first handful of games this season. The only thing we know how to do is go back to work, look at ourselves. Everybody’s got a hand in this and we’ve got to get it figured out fast.”

Which NFL teams clinched a playoff spot in Week 15 and which were eliminated? | SB Nation
Most of us probably didn’t see this coming in September. After Week 3, the Chargers, Cowboys, and Seahawks were all 1-2. The Bears were 2-1, albeit coming off just a two-point win over the Cardinals. The Texans were 0-3.
The Winner and Losers of Week 15 | The Ringer
Winner: The Legend of Nick Foles
In September, we jump to conclusions. In October, we think all that over. In November, we learn who the real contenders are. And in December, we throw all that crap out, because none of it matters. It’s Nick Foles season, and everybody else can get the hell out of his way.
