Atlanta Falcons fantasy stud and dud from Week 13

A rough week, with just one standout.

Another week, another defeat — that’s four in a row, as that victory in Washington feels more and more like a distant memory with each passing game. The Falcons looked lifeless against a good Baltimore Ravens defense, and it seems as if the players just can’t wait for this season to end.

We have a lot of great content analyzing the game here at The Falcoholic, but in this article, we’ll look at things strictly from a fantasy football perspective. Let’s look at Atlanta’s top fantasy performer and biggest fantasy disappointment from Week 13’s defeat against the Baltimore Ravens.

Fantasy Stud/Dud 2018 History:

Past Studs: Matt Ryan (4), Julio Jones (2), Calvin Ridley (2), Mohamed Sanu (1), Giorgio Tavecchio (1), Matt Bryant (1)

Past Duds: Mohamed Sanu (3), Calvin Ridley (2), Atlanta D/ST (2), Austin Hooper (2) Devonta Freeman (1), Tevin Coleman (1)

Stud - Austin Hooper

Stat Line: 5 catches, 44 receiving yards, 1 receiving touchdown: 10.4 standard league points, 15.4 PPR points

For the second straight week, we have a dud to stud success story. Austin Hooper bounced back from a Thanksgiving Night stinker to become seemingly the only fantasy relevant Falcons player to have a starter-worthy performance this week.

Hooper led the team in reception and receiving yards, on an afternoon when Matt Ryan only threw for 131 yards. Ryan couldn’t seem to get in a rhythm with any of his pass catchers other than Hooper. The Stanford man thus also accounted for the only offensive touchdown of the game for Atlanta.

Hooper finished as the third-highest scoring tight end this week, and he’s currently the sixth-highest scoring tight end in the entire league this season.

Dud

Tevin Coleman: 6 carries, 8 rushing yards, 1 catch, 3 receiving yards: 1.1 standard league points, 2.1 PPR points

There were plenty of candidates for the dud (dis)honor this week — Matt Ryan would have gotten it if not for his garbage-time touchdown pass to Hooper, while Julio Jones only had two catches for 18 yards — but Tevin Coleman’s incredibly grotesque stats make it impossible to give it to anybody else.

Coleman was rendered completely ineffective in this one, much like he was last week. However, the difference is that he scraped through with a garbage-time TD last week. 11 total yards for a starting RB is unacceptable, as the Falcons justifiably cut down Coleman’s touches due to his ineffectiveness.

There wasn’t even an ability to salvage his numbers for PPR leagues as Teco had just the one catch. Backup RB Ito Smith churned out doubled the yardage with roughly the same amount of touches. These past two games combined, Coleman has totaled 14 rushing yards on 14 carries.
