Baker Mayfield bags AFC Offensive Player of the Week prize

Browns quarterback continues to pile up honors as his rookie campaign nears an end.

Another week, another honor for Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield.

This time it is the AFC Offensive Player of the Week Award, which Mayfield pocketed after leading the Browns to a season sweep of the Cincinnati Bengals.

The news was announced on the league’s website, with Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles taking home the honor on the NFC side.

Against the Bengals in front of a raucous home crowd at FirstEnergy Stadium, Mayfield completed 27-of-37 passes for 284 yards and three touchdowns passes. (Not to mention one completely awesome stare down of former head coach Hue Jackson late in the fourth quarter.)

With one game remaining on the schedule, Mayfield has thrown for 24 touchdowns, the third-highest total in league history for a rookie. He is now just two touchdown passes behind Peyton Manning and Russell Wilson, two quarterbacks fans may have heard of, who sit at the top of the list.

In addition to that league mark, Mayfield needs just 151 passing yards on Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens to become just the fourth different quarterback in franchise history to pass for 3,500 yards in a single season. And with a touchdown pass, Mayfield will be just the fifth different quarterback in franchise history to pass for 25 touchdowns in a single season.

Those numbers have helped Mayfield practically lap the field this season among his fellow rookie quarterbacks, as Pro Football Focus points out:
