This marks the most Pro Bowlers the Bears have had in a season since 2013.
Five members of the Chicago Bears have been invited to the 2019 NFL Pro Bowl. The rosters were announced on Tuesday night during a special on NFL Network.
The five players are as follows:
- Linebacker Khalil Mack
- Safety Eddie Jackson
- Cornerback Kyle Fuller
- Defensive end Akiem Hicks
- Return specialist Tarik Cohen
Out of the Bears players named Pro Bowlers, only Mack has appeared in the game before: he was a three-time Pro Bowler with the Oakland Raiders.
In addition to the five voted onto the roster, seven players were named alternates: Mitchell Trubisky, Roquan Smith, Trey Burton, Danny Trevathan, Cody Whitehair, Leonard Floyd and Charles Leno Jr.
The players selected were relatively simple choices, as all five have played at high levels this season. Safety Adrian Amos led the NFC in fan votes for the strong safety position, but his bid to make it to the Pro Bowl has fallen short.
This year marks the most Pro Bowlers the Bears have had in a single season since 2013, when five players were given the honor. No season since then has seen more than two Bears players appear in the game.
This formidable showing comes just one season after there were no Bears players named Pro Bowlers last season. Jordan Howard and Josh Sitton made Pro Bowl appearances two years ago, but both made it onto the roster as alternates. The multitude of Bears players that were named Pro Bowlers this season comes as a testament to how far the franchise has come over the past few years.
These Bears will be playing among the NFL’s elite on January 27, 2019 in Orlando, Florida; that is, if they aren’t preparing to play in the Sper Bowl.
