Bengals News (12/18): Cincinnati has a coaching decision on the horizon

With only two games left in the season, the Bengals are on the cusp of deciding whether or not Marvin Lewis deserves yet another season.

Notebook: Uzomah Guts It Out; Mixon Chasing '68 Leading AFC
The injured guys that can’t play are well known across Bengaldom. But how about the guys that are able to play but are still hurting? One of the exhibit As is tight end C.J. Uzomah, who made one of Sunday’s biggest plays in the 30-16 victory over the Raiders in the Paul Brown Stadium finale.

Marvin Lewis News Conference Quotes - 12/17
“After watching the tape a few times, I’ll reiterate some of the things I said yesterday after the game. In all three phases of the game, we made critical plays at critical moments in order to keep progressing, whether it be the runs for a first down, a throw-catch-and-run for a first down, special teams plays, stops (on defense), etc. They were big. We had a couple of penalties that set us back quite a bit on offense that we have to eliminate. We had an (illegal) procedure, a block in the back and a hold. We had some insurmountable third downs there at a point. We are starting to set a record for those bad boys. Defensively, we have to continue to play through. There were a couple times we miss-fit in the run or miss-fit in the pass. We have to continue to eliminate any errors that way. They had the three explosive plays on the day.”

Paul Daugherty on Cincinnati Bengals win over Oakland Raiders
What the Cincinnati Bengals wanted to be is not what they are. Their 30-16 win over the lamentable and mundane Oakland Raiders was sometimes sloppy and unfocused (nine penalties). The quarterback, Jeff Driskel, was barely adequate. A 51.3 rating doesn’t win a lot of games.

Bengals’ key to success lies in Joe Mixon
Ever since the Bengals drafted Joe Mixon in 2017, he’s split time with Giovani Bernard and Jeremy Hill. Now with just Bernard to share the ball with, Mixon has seen an uptick in carries.

Eliminated Bengals have 2 games before coaching decision
The Bengals (6-8) ended their third-longest losing streak under Lewis with a 30-16 victory over the Oakland Raiders in front of another sparse crowd at Paul Brown Stadium. They were eliminated from postseason contention when the AFC North-leading Steelers beat the Patriots later Sunday.

Pride will keep Bengals from tankapalooza
In professional sports, if you’re eliminated from playoff contention like the Cincinnati Bengals are, you normally tank, securing a higher draft spot. Don’t expect the Bengals to be a ‘normal’ team though.

‘’If you take a once-in-a-lifetime trip to some exotic beach and it rains the first six days of your week, are you going to complain when it’s sunny on the 7th day? Or might you enjoy the fleeting sun?’’

Egger: What were the pre-Marvin Bengals like? Look no further than Sunday
A half-empty stadium, a home-finale win for an embattled coach and rampant fan apathy Sunday took the Bengals full circle from 16 years ago when the situation was exactly the same.
