The Bills appear content to move on from the underperforming veteran
The Buffalo Bills play the New England Patriots this afternoon at Gilette Stadium, a venue that has been a house of horrors for most opponents in the Bill Belichick/Tom Brady Era. The Bills have won there twice during that time, but with one major caveat—Brady only played 2 of 8 quarters in both victories.
Both teams announced their inactive lists for today’s game, and the Bills will be without a key contributor on offense this Sunday. Here is the full list of Buffalo’s inactives for this Week 16 matchup.
QB Derek Anderson
The veteran has cleared concussion protocol, which is good, but he remains a scratch again. For the second consecutive week, he is a healthy scratch. Matt Barkley, who signed a two-year contract extension this week, will once again serve as the backup to rookie Josh Allen.
RB Chris Ivory
Ian Rapoport tweeted that the veteran runner was unlikely to play due to a shoulder injury, and his sources were correct. Ivory is out for the second straight game, and with Marcus Murphy going on injured reserve this week, the Bills are down to two healthy running backs—LeSean McCoy and Keith Ford.
WR Ray-Ray McCloud III
The Bills’ sixth-round pick this April is a healthy scratch. The addition of return specialist Victor Bolden Jr. and slot receiver Isaiah McKenzie has put McCloud’s future with the team in some doubt.
TE Charles Clay
The veteran tight end is without an injury designation, but the Bills will deactivate him, content to play Jason Croom and Logan Thomas instead. Clay is set to count $9 million against the salary cap next year, but after an unproductive season, the team may instead choose to move on and save $4.5 million next year.
G Vladimir Ducasse
The veteran lost his starting gig to rookie Wyatt Teller, and after serving as a backup for one game, he has been a healthy scratch ever since.
CB Ryan Lewis
The man who started two games after Vontae Davis retired at halftime in the season’s second game will miss his second consecutive game due to a concussion suffered against the New York Jets.
S Dean Marlowe
Marlowe was a healthy scratch last weekend after being elevated from the practice squad for the second time this season, and he is a healthy scratch again today.
