He’s the G.O.A.T., and if he’s on your roster, you’re playing him this week regardless of his recent struggles
The Buffalo Bills play the New England Patriots this week in a match-up that typically produces fantasy football gold—for the bad guys. The Patriots have dominated the Bills since George W. Bush’s first term, compiling a 31-4 record over Buffalo since Tom Brady became the starting quarterback.
Sunday’s game finds both teams in a familiar December place—the Bills are playing for pride, and the Patriots are playing for playoff seeding. If your fantasy football team is still alive, there’s a good chance you’re playing for a championship this weekend. Do you sleep with the enemy in order to attain fantasy football glory?
If you do, here are some players who could have a big game against Buffalo this weekend.
QB Tom Brady
Brady’s average day against the Bills over his career sees him totaling 254 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. If he merely hits those plateaus, that would give him between 16 and 20 fantasy points, depending on whether or not your league counts passing touchdowns as 4 or 6 points for the quarterback. The future Hall of Fame quarterback has looked off in recent weeks, but this isn’t the time to overthink things. He has a huge home game in December against a team that he regularly dominates. If he’s on your roster, you’re playing him in a championship setting.
RB James White
New England’s leader in targets (114), receptions (81), and receiving touchdowns (6) will probably be covered by a combination of Lorenzo Alexander and Corey Thompson. This is a match-up that New England will almost certainly look to exploit, as Buffalo has struggled a bit with shifty running backs who can catch coming out of the backfield. The Detroit Lions were unable to exploit this last week with Theo Riddick, but I’d expect offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels to look to White early and often on Sunday.
New England D/ST
A rookie quarterback against a Bill Belichick defense is typically a recipe for disaster, and while Buffalo’s Josh Allen played well against the Patriots’ former defensive coordinator Matt Patricia’s defense last week, there’s nothing like the real thing. At home in a must-win December game if New England wants a bye in the playoffs, I expect that the team will be fired up for this one. Expect Buffalo to commit at least one turnover, if not more, on Sunday.
