Tre’Davious White has struggled over the past two weeks, at least by his standards—as such, the big wideout may have a good day
The Buffalo Bills host the Detroit Lions this week in a game that is essentially for pride alone. Both squads are looking at sub-.500 finishes in 2018, but each team has some fantasy football values to consider in your league playoffs this week.
While the match-ups are a bit stronger for Buffalo, at least on paper, there are a few Detroit players worth considering this week. Here are a few who could make an impact in Week 15.
RB Theo Riddick
Buffalo has been very good against running backs this year, with one notable exception: if the back is a good receiver out of the backfield, the Bills have had stretches where they are unable to stop that player from doing damage as a receiver. With speedy linebacker Matt Milano out for the season, that leaves only Tremaine Edmunds among the ‘backers as someone who would be considered a strong player in coverage. Riddick is an excellent receiver out of the backfield, as he has caught 55 passes on 66 targets this season. With lead back Kerryon Johnson questionable after missing 3 straight games due to a sprained knee, it’s likely that Riddick will still see plenty of work on third downs even if the young runner suits up for the game. If Johnson misses the game, then Riddick’s role will increase even more.
WR Kenny Golladay
Typically, playing a receiver against the Bills’ defense is a bad move, as Tre’Davious White has locked down some of the best pass-catchers in the game this season. With rookie Levi Wallace emerging as an excellent cover man, as well, this seems to be a foolish recommendation. However, White has struggled a bit over his last two games, and Buffalo has allowed three different receivers—Kenny Stills and DeVante Parker of the Miami Dolphins, and Robby Anderson of the New York Jets—to catch touchdown passes and score double-digit fantasy points over the last two weeks. At 6’4,” Golladay is a tough mark for Buffalo’s corners, none of whom stand taller than Wallace at 6’ even. The big man averages 7 targets, 4 catches, and 66 receiving yards per game. Those aren’t great numbers, but if you’re in a PPR league, that’s 10.6 points, which is more than worth starting as a flex play. Add in the touchdown potential, especially if Buffalo’s special teams continues to allow teams to capitalize on short fields, and Golladay could be in line for a big day.
Lions D/ST
Detroit’s defense isn’t one that is highly sought, as it sits available in 76% of Yahoo! leagues, but against the Bills, it could be a wise move to play them. Quarterback Josh Allen has played fairly well over his last three games, but he has thrown 4 interceptions and fumbled 3 times (1 of which was lost) in that same span. Allen has also taken 5 sacks in his last 2 games. Detroit terrorized rookie Josh Rosen last week, sacking him 3 times and returning an interception for a touchdown in a 17-3 victory. If they can do something similar to Allen this week, then they will put together another solid fantasy scoring day.
