Does Patricia deserve blame for the Lions’ conservative, inefficient offense?

The PODcast tries to figure out who’s culpable in the Lions’ offensive failures.

We all love ourselves a scapegoat. Problems seem much more simple and solvable if there’s one person at the root of the issues.

Things are rarely that simple, however, and when things are going wrong in any facet of life, there are likely a ton of different factors contributing to said failure.

The Detroit Lions’ offense is failing right now, and while we can all agree that poor quarterback play and limited personnel have contributed to that as of late, coaching has taken the brunt of the criticism, and for good reason. Detroit’s gameplan is lacking in innovation and the results speak for themselves.

Offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter is the most obvious target for scapegoating and most fans are calling for his firing. But how much is head coach Matt Patricia to blame? Patricia defended many of Cooter’s decisions from Sunday’s game against the Rams, including the much-maligned decision to run on third-and-goal from the 19-yard line.
