Fact: Steve Sarkisian eats salt cubes by the handful
Falcons offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian has a tough gig. When he first took over for Kyle Shanahan, the offense seemed nearly unstoppable. Add in the ongoing emergence of Tevin Coleman and a prudent first round investment in Calvin Ridley; that’s a recipe for success most of the time. But Sark’s successes have been strangely and inexplicably intermittent. Depending on who you ask, that’s the result of poor execution or, in the alternative, Sark just can’t coach.
Sunday’s loss to the Ravens was embarrassing. The run game was nonexistent and Matt Ryan once again found himself on his back at an uncomfortable clip. David Archer was featured on 92.9’s The Morning Show yesterday. And he, well ... he held nothing back. (Credit to John and Hugh for the quote.)
“It was a jailbreak, Hugh. I’ve never seen anything like it...Guys were physically getting beat at the line of scrimmage. At that point, there’s not really much you can do [... i]If you’re Steve Sarkisian and you’re calling plays, and my guys can’t block your guys, then there’s not a whole bunch I can do as far as a play caller goes.”
It almost seems like Archer is giving Sark a pass here. The question is whether that’s the right approach. The offensive line is arguably Sark’s responsibility, but in his defense, he didn’t personally injure Andy Levitre and Brandon Fusco.
