Eagles release “estimated” injury report ahead of Texans game

Update on Philadelphia’s injury situation.

The Philadelphia Eagles released their first official injury report on Wednesday in advance of their Week 16 game against the Houston Texans.

Note that this injury report is an estimation because the Eagles only held a walk-through. Doug Pederson has been trying to take it a little easier on the players since it’s later in the season and Philadelphia is coming off two straight road trips.

Five players did not practice: Carson Wentz, Alshon Jeffery, Michael Bennett, Isaac Seumalo, and Sidney Jones.

Doug Pederson already declared Nick Foles as the Eagles’ starting quarterback for the Texans game. Pederson also confirmed Wentz won’t practice this week.

Jeffery is listed with an illness. He should be fine for Sunday.

Bennett hasn’t been participating much in practice lately. The Eagles are likely taking it easy on the 33-year-old. He should be able to play.

Pederson made it sound like Seumalo is doubtful to play this week. It’ll likely be Stefen Wisniewski starting at left guard once again. Wis was seen with a large wrap on his left hand but he was a full participant in practice.

Jones was described as “week-to-week” so it sounds like he’ll be out again. The Eagles could continue forward with Avonte Maddox and Rasul Douglas as their starting outside cornerbacks with Cre’Von LeBlanc manning the nickel job.

Six players were limited on Wednesday: Jordan Hicks, Timmy Jernigan, Zach Ertz, Fletcher Cox, Cameron Johnston, and D.J. Alexander.

Hicks hasn’t practiced since getting hurt in Week 11. It’s good to see he has a chance to return to the field this week.

Jernigan hasn’t practiced since leading up to the team’s Week 13 game against Washington. It’d be nice for him to return so the Eagles don’t have to rely on the likes of Haloti Ngata, Teyvon Hester, and Bruce Hector as much.

It’s unclear when exactly Ertz’s ankle issue arose. He played 92% of the Eagles’ snaps in the Rams game.

Cox got banged up in the Rams game but he was able to return and play well despite getting hurt. Cox may be less than 100% but it’d be surprising if he doesn’t play on Sunday.

Hopefully Johnston is fine. The Eagles need their stud punter.

Alexander is needed for special teams purposes.

We’ll find out more about the Eagles’ injury situation when they release their second injury report of the week on Thursday.
