On whether or not we should sign Bell:
To me it’s a no brainer signing Bell
Even if he wants 17/18 per year.
I know it’s a lot. He also brings a lot to the table. I also know he’ll be 27 by the time next year starts. Do you know how old was AP when he rushed for 2000 yards? 27. He also had a style much more prone to wearing down a player. What Bell would bring to the Jets we haven’t had since Curtis Martin, an all pro RB capable of swinging the game in our favor every time he touches the ball. That is worth the same as a WR#1. And he essentially IS a WR#2. He would open up so much for Robby and Sam. We could also pass on (over)drafting a WR in round 1 if we sign Bell, thus allowing us to draft an OLineman we so desperately need. Of course it’s a risk, but since when does not taking a risk pays off? Didn’t the Pats took a risk on Moss? On Revis? The Rams with Suh, the Chiefs with Watkins, the Eagles with Ajayi. Teams take risks all the time and sometimes they work sometimes they don’t. Standing pat with the Elijah McGuires of the world has never done anything good to us. ”Oh but we can always draft the next Kamara/Hunt/insertmiddleroundrunningbackwhoisawesome”. To every Kamara there are tons of Josh Adams, Kenyan Drakes, Elijah McGuires, Isaiah Crowells who are either serviceable or just plain bad. It’s not easy to find those guys, so if we have a chance to sign one of the best players in the league, I really see no reason why we should not.

On the gift that is Sam Darnold:
Merry Christmas
Sam Darnold was the best gift I got all year

On the Potential that Josh Allen has:
That’s called bend
I know it’s been a while since Jets fans have seen a pass rusher with bend and flexibilty, but that’s what it looks like. Some people see a quick rising name who wasn’t on their radar coming into the year and who’s a senior and dismiss him. Allen is the real deal. He led the NCAA in sacks in the toughest conference in the NCAA. He has unbelievable athleticism. His bend, flexibilty and speed are off the charts, he’s a leader, his first step is explosive. He needs work in the run game, but that’s because teams ran away from him consitently. He has unbelievable pursuit skills and knows where the holes are going to be. HR a phenomanl tacklet and he’s not clueless in coverage like most rookie pass rushers. The players people of scared of him turning into like Barkevious Mingo and Dion Jordan are unwarranted comparissions. Here are Josh Allen’s stats the last 2 years: 66 and 84 tackles, 10.5 and 18.5 tackles for loss, 7 and 14 sacks, 2 and 5 forced fumbles. Here’s Mingo’s last 2 years: 46 and 38 tackles, 15 and 8.5 tackles for loss, 8 and 4.5 sacks and 1 and 1 forced fumble. Here’s Jordan’s last 2 years: 42 and 44 tackles, 13 and 10.5 tackles for loss, 7.5 and 5 sacks, and 1 and 3 FF. There’s a clear difference in production. Josh Allen is the real deal. In fact you know who he matches up with in production and profile to coming out of school a small school senior who shot up draft boards named Khalil Mack.

On what it would take to enhance our draft position:
Jets need 3 of these 4 outcomes to overtake the 49ers for the #2 Pick
In case you were wondering, here’s what needs to happen for the Jets to leap SF for the #2 Pick via the tiebreaker. Giants vs Cowboys (1:00) Buccaneers vs Falcons (1:00) Chargers @ Broncos (4:25) Ravens vs Browns (4:25) As you can see, three of the four teams we need to win (in black) are home and only one (Chargers) is on the road. Dallas clinched their division but they are locked out of the top two seeds, so its likely they will use this is a quasi bye week to rest certain players. That and the fact that the Giants are home gives us a pretty good chance at the Giants over Dallas this week, thats why the Giants are 6 Points favorites. The Bucs and Falcons are both just playing out the string, but the Bucs are home. Falcons are only 1 Point favorites, so it’s a virtual Pick’em. The Chargers still have a chance to win their division and the #1 Seed with a KC loss, and since both teams are a 4:25 start, the Chargers go into this game with motivation to play hard and hope for help, therefore SD has been installed as 6.5 Points favorites despite being on the road verses a Denver team that is out of it. So again, the Chargers have a pretty good chance to win this game. Lastly, the Ravens still haven’t clinched anything, the division or a wild card, but we need the Steelers to keep the heat on them at 1PM vs the Bengals, and the Steelers are 17 Points favorites at home, so that looks good. Then the Ravens must play hard and win to secure a playoff spot. The Ravens are currently 6.5 Points favorites despite being on the road. So we need three of the four in BLACK to win, but all four are installed as favorites or a 1 Point underdog, so the #2 Pick is very much in play. Lastly, all of the above is moot if the Jets win and they will probably end up in the #5 spot. Of course if the Jets lose and the 49ers win over the Rams (highly unlikely), the Jets would leap to #2 outright regardless of tiebreakers. As for the Cardinals, if they upset the Seahawks who are locked into a wild card, therefore have nothing of significance to play for despite being at home, it’s still conceivable we can leap the 49ers and/or Cardinals and wind up at 1 or 2 with a loss.

On the possible results from this weekend:
Sunday
If we win we knock the Pats back and make them play an extra game. If we lose we guarantee a top 3 pick. I like either circumstance.

On the Jets tactics of denying rumors:
Are the Jets going to deny every rumor about a coach they might pursue?
Yes.
-MachlinT
On one benefit of firing Bowles midseason:
Should have fired Bowles before the bye week
Everyone knew after that Buffalo debacle that he was gone. They could be doing the GM/coach search openly, instead of trying to carry on with this denial nonsense until they fire them anyway.

On the harm of keeping Mac:
Peter King and Albert Breer
Both put out there that agents for head coach candidates are questioning the Jets power structure and specifically the role of Mac. Seems Mac is having a negative approach on perspective candidates. Little story about it on NFL traderumors.com in the Afc east notes. Seems some of the top candidates don’t want to dance with Mac, and Chris Johnson is leading the search and putting out feelers to candidates.

On the news that the Jets might pursue Harbaugh:
Exactly what any Jets fan would want to hear, I should think
Even if it doesn’t work, you gotta love the effort. Do your best to get the best guy out there.

On whether or not we should build a run-first offense around Sam:
I mean, we don’t have Bell, and we don’t have a Marshawn Lynch type, so we’re basing a hiring decision on speculation about who we may or may not acquire? We do have a Darnold, and if he’s as good as we think he can be, a run first offense is not maximizing his talents. For that matter, IMO SEA is plain dumb for failing to take advantage of Wilson’s superb passing ability (not surprising, since Carroll isn’t exactly a coaching genius). They won one SB on the back of the best defense in football. Now that they don’t have that great defense they’re not a serious contender, but they could be if their offense wasn’t stuck in the stone ages. They have perennially given Wilson one of the worst O-Lines in football and a mediocre set of targets. It’s a monumentally stupid approach to having one one of the best QBs in the NFL.
