Greg Olsen to finish season on Injured Reserve

Olsen re-injured the same foot that has been troubling him since September 2017

Greg Olsen is headed to the Carolina Panthers injured reserve list for the second consecutive season. He fractured his right foot against the Buffalo Bills in Week 2 of last season. That earned him his first placement on the injured reserve list in his NFL career. He re-fractured that same foot in Week 1 of this season against the Dallas Cowboys.

Sunday’s injury was to that same foot once again. There is no word at this time as to whether or not he will need further surgery. Olsen at least knew that his season was over as soon as he was hurt.

The Panthers have Greg Olsen under contract for two more seasons and will hope to see him try to play for at least one more. His ability to make plays and his leadership would be sorely missed on a team that is trending towards youth across their offense. Olsen may not return to 100% after this lengthy injury battle with his foot, but a half-effective Olsen would still make a phenomenal number two tight end behind the quickly developing rookie, Ian Thomas.

To fill Olsen’s roster spot, the Panthers promoted wide receiver Mose Frazier from their practice squad. This is the second year in a row that Frazier has been promoted from the practice squad. He appeared in one regular season game and one post season game with the Panthers in 2017. He did not record any receptions.
