Injury report implications for 49ers-Rams

The 49ers are out a trio of starters for Sunday’s matchup. We’ll take a look at how the roster is affected against the Rams.

The San Francisco 49ers will be without three starters on offense against the Los Angeles Rams for their regular season finale on Sunday. Running back Matt Breida, along with receivers Marquise Goodwin and Dante Pettis were ruled out Friday by coach Kyle Shanahan. Backup tight end Garrett Celek will also be on sideline while he remains within the concussion protocol.

Breida aggravated an ankle injury during the first half of the 49ers’ 14-9 loss to the Chicago Bears on Sunday. It’s same the injury that’s plagued him throughout the season. The 49ers will continue to rely on backup Jeff Wilson Jr., who carried the ball 11 times for just 27 yards against Bears. in five games, Wilson has totaled 257 yards on 63 carries and a 4.1-yard average.

The 49ers’ receiving corps is down to four healthy bodies. Goodwin is out with a bruised calf, while Pettis suffered a partially torn MCL in the first half against the Bears. The injury won’t require surgery and Pettis is expected to be ready for the 49ers’ offseason program.

The 49ers promoted wideout Steven Dunbar to the 53-man roster from the practice squad earlier this week. He’ll join Kendrick Bourne, Trent Taylor and Richie James. Those four will constitute the bulk of the receiving work on Sunday against the Rams along with tight end George Kittle. The team is likely to promote another receiver, with Max McCaffrey and Jordan Smallwood currently on the practice squad.

With Celek remaining in the NFL’s concussion protocol and won't be active on Sunday, fellow backup tight end Ross Dweley should assume Celek’s role in the 49ers’ offense.

The only other player on the final injury report was cornerback Tarvarius Moore. He was added to the report on Friday with a shoulder injury, and is listed as questionable. If Moore is unable to suit up, cornerback Greg Mabin is likely to step in opposite veteran Richard Sherman.

49ers final injury report

Out: RB Matt Breida (ankle), TE Garrett Celek (concussion), WR Marquise Goodwin (calf), WR Dante Pettis (knee)

Questionable: CB Tarvarius Moore (shoulder)
