Jaguars win 6-0 over Colts in crushing shutout

It took nearly two months, but the Jacksonville Jaguars won a game, and it was in the familiar fashion of suffocating defense and neutering the offense from doing anything that could lead to turnovers, as they defeated the Indianapolis Colts 6-0 at TIAA Bank Field.

With Cody Kessler taking over for the benched Blake Bortles, and with Leonard Fournette serving his one-game suspension for fighting, the Jags offense was much of the same snooze fest of dump off passes and hand offs while using the play of their defense to carry them through the finish line. Kessler finished with a mediocre 18/24 150 yards passing with no touchdowns or interceptions. He did what he was asked, which is to say, turn and hand it off and don’t try anything downfield that may cost the team an opportunity.

Josh Lambo was the only source of points for either team, converting both field goal attempts on the rare occasions the Jaguars moved into Colts territory.

While Kessler was the story heading in, it was the return of “Sacksonville”, if only for a game, to it’s expected elite-level form on defense. After getting the doors blown off for much of the game in their last meeting in early November, the Jaguars defense pitched a shut out for their first time since October 22 of last year, ironically against the Colts.

With sacks by Yannick Ngakoue, Calais Campbell, and the game sealer essentially by rookie Ronnie Harrison, and pressure seemingly in the face of Andrew Luck all game, the defense seemed to be set on reestablishing their pride and reputation against a team that had caused talk of disarray in the locker room on that side of the ball last month.

The win brings the Jags to 4-8 and potentially unmoved from their draft spot as several teams in the current Top 10 of the NFL Draft order, also won or were winning their games at the time of this article.
