Jets Helmet Stickers: Week 16

Somehow, you just knew the Jets were going to lose this one. This is a type of premonition that comes to all Jets fans when they have the lead. Nevertheless, there were quite a lot of strong performances from younger Jets in this game. I’d like to give a special shout out to Chris Herndon, who has really impressed this season for a rookie tight end and had one of the best catches I’ve ever seen for a key third down conversion this week. On the flip side, another shout out to Leonard Williams for being a knucklehead and likely costing the Jets the game. Just when he’s taking over a game at last, he gets himself thrown out for throwing a punch and the defense collapses. But let’s go back to the positives:

Bronze Star: WR Robby Anderson (9 catches, 140 yards, 1 TD)

Robby had a terrible start to the season, but he has really come on as of late. He’s now above 300 yards over the last three weeks, and this was probably his best performance of the year. The best aspect is that he’s won on short or combination routes that go beyond his history of being a go route receiver. Whether or not Robby survives a change of coaching staff or ever develops into the type of receiver many of us hoped for remains in doubt, but this is the type of performance that can get you excited.

Silver Star: KR Andre Roberts (4 kick returns for 203 yards, 1 TD, 1 punt return, 12 yards)

Andre Roberts has been a real surprise this year. Not only has he earned a Pro Bowl nod, but he currently leads the NFL in kick return yards by over 150 yards while also leading the NFL in yards per attempt (minimum 20 attempts.) On top of that, he leads the NFL in punt return yards per attempt and sits second in punt return yardage. He swung the momentum to the Jets side with a big, if not particularly challenging, return touchdown early in the game. Then when the Jets somehow found themselves trailing in the 4th quarter, he took another kick into Packers territory to get the Jets offense into range to send the game into overtime. Roberts did everything he possibly could to win this game for the Jets.

Gold Star: QB Sam Darnold (24 of 35 for 341 yards, 3 TDs, 3 rushes for 4 yards)

After Darnold put together an excellent game last week, I was worried he might regress this week. If anything, he was even sharper against Green Bay. Over the last 3 games, Darnold’s passer rating has risen from 83.7 to 100 to an incredible 128.4. Not only has he improved upon his decision making and fundamentals, but he continues to show excellent athleticism and improvisational ability. While the Jets were carried by defense and special teams early in the season, Darnold has been the main factor in keeping the Jets competitive since his return from injury. Here’s to seeing a lot more of that in the future.

So there you have it, sixteen weeks in and the table stands:

Jamal Adams 18 points (4 gold, 2 silver, 2 bronze)

Jason Myers 11 points (2 gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze)

Sam Darnold 8 points (2 gold, 1 silver)

Andre Roberts 7 points (1 gold, 2 silver)

Avery Williamson 6 points (1 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze)

Henry Anderson 5 points (1 gold, 1 silver)

Morris Claiborne 5 points (2 silver, 2 bronze)

Quincy Enunwa 4 points (1 gold, 1 bronze)

Darron Lee 4 points (2 silver)

Trumaine Johnson 4 point (1 gold, 1 bronze)

Deontay Burnett 3 points (1 gold)

Isaiah Crowell 3 points (1 gold)

Leonard Williams 3 points (1 silver, 1 bronze)

Robby Anderson 3 points (3 bronze)

Jermaine Kearse 2 points (1 silver)

Bilal Powell 2 points (2 bronze)

Darryl Roberts 1 point (1 bronze)

Jordan Jenkins 1 point (1 bronze)
