Landon Collins officially to IR, where it looks like Jonathan Stewart will also stay

Kenny Ladler (48) with the Redskins earlier this season.

Giants bypass running back, add safety Kenny Ladler to roster

The New York Giants officially placed safety Landon Collins (torn labrum on injured reserve Thursday. To take his place on the roster, the Giants promoted 26-year-old safety Kenny Ladler from their practice squad.

Ladler, out of Vanderbilt, played two games for the Buffalo Bills in 2014 after making the team as an undrafted free agent.

Out of football in 2015, Ladler played in the Canadian Football League the past two seasons. The 6-foot-1, 200-pounder was a first-team All-CFL linebacker last season.

Ladler played five games earlier this season for the Washington Redskins, the Giants’ opponent this Sunday. He has never started an NFL game and was used exclusively on special teams by Washington.

Ladler was cut by the Redskins on Nov. 7 and added to the Giants’ practice squad on Nov. 14.

The Giants also added punter Brock Miller to their practice squad.

What about Jonathan Stewart?

The Giants designated the veteran running back for a possible return from IR three weeks ago. Today is the deadline for the Giants to activate Stewart, who went to IR with a foot injury.

Unless another roster move is forthcoming, it appears that the 31-year-old will remain on IR for the rest of the season.
