The Lions will be without another key offensive weapon this week.
The Detroit Lions have a big challenge this week with the 10-1 Los Angeles Rams coming to town on Sunday. Averaging 35.4 points per game, the Rams are going to challenge the Lions’ offense to try and keep up with them in what almost certainly will be a high-scoring game from Los Angeles.
Unfortunately for the Lions, they’re going to have to do so without some of their better offensive weapons. Earlier in the week, the Lions placed Marvin Jones Jr. on IR and on Friday, they announced rookie running back Kerryon Johnson will not play against the Rams.
Johnson suffered a knee injury against the Panthers and did not return. The Lions running back currently ranks third among all running backs with 5.4 yards per carry and is fourth among rookies in rushing yards.
LeGarrette Blount will likely get the start in his place. Last week against a solid Bears run defense, Blount rushed for 88 yards on 4.6 yards per carry—most of which came in the second half.
In addition to Johnson, the Lions will be missing fullback Nick Bellore, who didn’t practice all week after suffering an ankle injury.
The rest of the injury report fills out with the same players that have been on the report for weeks. Bruce Ellington remains questionable with a back injury he played through against the Bears, Jalen Reeves-Maybin still has a neck injury that has kept him out of two of the last three games, but Michael Roberts has been downgraded to doubtful with a shoulder injury that he suffered in the first game against the Bears. Roberts returned to action last week, but he looks unlikely to play against Los Angeles.
The Rams, on the other hand, have literally nobody on their injury report. Here’s the full list for both teams.
