Marquise Goodwin, Pierre Garçon won’t play on Sunday vs. Seahawks

The San Francisco 49ers will once again be without their top two wide receivers, this time against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 13. Marquise Goodwin is dealing with a serious family issue and will not be available on Sunday. Pierre Garçon is still dealing with a knee injury.

Shanahan said Goodwin is going through a really serious issue, but he would not offer any details. He said it was up to Goodwin when to make that information public. He visited the team on Thursday, but Shanahan said he is in a tough place and won’t play this week. He and his family remain in our thoughts.

Garçon has been dealing with a knee injury much of the season, and it does not sound like the knee will be getting any better the rest of the regular season. Shanahan said Garçon was available if needed, but as long as they have enough other options, they won’t play him. He could end up on IR, but for the time being he will be sidelined but still on the 53-man roster. The team could promote Victor Bolden or Steven Dunbar from the practice squad if need be, but Dunbar strained his hamstring last week, and they don’t think they need a promotion at this point.

The rest of the injury report is expected. Joshua Garnett was ruled out with his broken thumb, and D.J. Reed was ruled out with his heel and chest issues.

Jaquiski Tartt was listed as limited all week, but he is not on the final injury report. That suggests he will play, barring anything notable happening between now and Sunday.
