NFL playoff picture: The latest on the Seahawks and the wild card

https://ift.tt/2AIRldL

The Seattle Seahawks are back in the lead of the “hunt.”

Following their 43-16 win over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, the Seahawks improved to 7-5 with their third straight win. Combined with a loss by the Minnesota Vikings, who fall to 6-5-1 after a loss to the New England Patriots, that puts Seattle in the six-seed as of Sunday evening.

The next game to watch: Washington at the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night. Should the Eagles win at home, the Seahawks should move into the five seed, the wild card team that will likely go on the road to face the winner of the NFC East. As of now, that looks like it will be the Dallas Cowboys, a team that Seattle beat earlier this season.

The NFC West is now decided as the LA Rams clinched the division following their win over the Detroit Lions on Sunday.

The Carolina Panthers, the team that the Seahawks needed to beat last week to get into this favorable position, lost for the fourth straight time. The Panthers went from a two-game lead over Seattle when they were 6-2 to being two games behind the Seahawks in a matter of only four weeks.

If Philly does win on Monday night it will knock down Washington, but also keep the Eagles just a game behind Seattle. Other than that, there’s not much standing between the Seahawks and their sixth playoff berth in the last seven years. Per 538, they are now 86% to make the postseason.

The Seahawks host the Vikings next Monday night.
